Got a used Civic Si for my 16 year old, and it produces a moaning/whining sound intermittently (hopefully the video clip is playable).
Initially it seemed random, but I've found it's reproducible under the following conditions:
-starting from a dead stop
-car pointing up a slight incline
-moderately high revs/aggressive launch with the clutch.
I can't yet tell where in the engine bay it's coming from because so far the care has to be in motion to make the noise. It seems to be on the left side (transmission and clutch side). At first, I thought the drive belt might be slipping on the pulley (the belt doesn't look bad, but it could be original with 145K on it), but I'm more concerned it's the clutch.
I'll probably go ahead and change the drive belt just because,
but I wanted to toss it up here and see if the noise was pathognomonic to someone.
