Hi all. Got my first Jeep a few weeks ago! 2003 TJ. Trying to put in a radio (as there isn't one). I have more wires than I am expecting though. Does anyone have any idea what they might be? Any help appreciated - details below

I think I have identified all the speaker wires, which from some googling I think are:

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/Red
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Green
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Violet
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/Yellow
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Blue
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue/White
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Blue/Red

I think I should also be expecting to see the following:

Radio Constant 12v+ Wire: Pink/White
Radio Switched 12v+ Wire: Pink
Radio Ground Wire: Chassis
Radio Illumination Wire: Orange
Stereo Dimmer Wire: Black/Yellow

But the remaining wires I actually have are in this photo

two black wires rather than one (both ground?),
two red wires with a white stripe (presumably both positive?) (Radio Constant/Switched?)
green?
Purple with yellow stripe?

Also, I don't seem to have a Black/Yellow wire (Stereo Dimmer)

Anyone got any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks

Can you trace them back further? I’m guessing someone spliced on the wires to extend them. Black and red wires are more common at stores than specific colors and with stripes, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone just used those color wires to extend the originals, and if you go back further, you should be able to find the proper color wires.

Looks like they are thicker than they should be too which also points to the fact they might be spliced on.

Have you looked at the wiring diagram in the Factory Service Manual that you can get off this site in the resource section? It will identify every wire by color code in your Jeep.

Thanks for the tips. going to dig a bit deeper this week. Stereo's coming tomorrow, so finger's crossed!

I just wanted to say thank you for doing the leg work on this and having this be a source people who are wiring their jeeps could use going into the future!

I also wanted to comment, purely for other folks who might be using this as a guide as time goes on that there is a little mix up with both front speakers in your listing. The negative and positive for both of those speakers should be swapped. Ex. Left front positive is really left front negative. Here's a pic from the Haynes manual as reference.
