Hood louver question

Has anyone tried side vents?

Whatever you're in to.

Thanks guys, I’m still on the fence, if I wind up putting one on I’ll try and record a before and after of various parts of the engines temp.

Kind of surprised my original latches don’t do this in that case. There’s really no reason that a hood should do that if everything is adjusted properly.

Not sure what to tell you. Driving down a lonely Wyoming 2 lane highway, 40mph crosswind with a passing tractor trailer that knock you sideways and also easily rattle the hood.

Im definitely not arguing, just surprised I haven’t seen it.

On a side note I’m kinda jealous. I wish I was cruising down a lonely Wyoming highway. Sounds beautiful in the sense that I’ve never been west of the Mississippi and I love rural settings.

There is a kind of lonely barren desolation out here that I don't think exists further east. Not even the boring stretches of Kansas and Nebraska can compare.

My JK / JKUR hoods fluttered all the time. Never noticed it on my TJ. That said, I'm not really a cosmetic guy but plan to put one on my TJ because I like the look. Aluminum on black. Also plan a drop down tailgate because I want to see why everyone hates them 🙃

There are plenty around. I'm sure most of them work similarly. One issue I had was my firewall getting hot on long trips. Did the louver solve that? Nope...

Another issue I was having was in the super hot California summers, the A/C would not run as well as I'd like it during stop and go traffic. Did it solve that? Fuck yes it did.

I don't rock crawl as much as I did in my youth so I don't know what problems it was supposed to solve in that regard. Actually, come to think about it, I don't know what other problems people think it would solve or if they are imaginary. Ask me if I care.

As for water. I've been through big storms in California, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico with my Poison Spyder louvers. Haven't noticed any problems. Water does get in when I'm blasting it during wash day. Again...ask me if I care. I'm pretty sure the Jeep doesn't care either.

Poison Spyder wasn't my first choice. I really liked the Gen-Right early models like the kind on Stu's site.

BTW, that Amazon model is an exact ripoff of the Poison Spyder hood louver. Don't know if the material is the same gauge or type, though. Gen-right ripped off their design on their newer models for the most part as well. But seriously, a real Poison Spyder hood louver is about $20 more than that Amazon ECOTRIC knock-off. Why would you cut corners? (pun)

I just installed a junkyard set on my LJ and while I didn’t have problem with under-hood heat I installed them mainly because I liked the look of them and I had a set kicking around for the last decade.
What surprised me was the hood flutter completely stopped after installing them.View attachment 158297
That looks really good, I like that.
As for for flutter, mine went completely away when I installed the turn-buckle style hold downs.
