good morning i have a 2004 wrangler sport 2.4 5 speed and would like to put a 42rle automatic from my wrecked 2002 liberty sport i have ecm from liberty and i know i have to get other parts just need to know if anyone has tried this swap thank you.

As far as I know the bolt pattern on the Liberty 3.7 is different from the 4.0, the 2.4 and the 2.5, none of those transmissions swap. I think you need the 2.4L 42RLE front section of the case to make it work and splitting the case is kinda like a rebuild as far as skill level goes.

I went from an 06 6 speed to an 05 42RLE.

From my understanding, you're going to need to find a trans (and everything else) from another TJ. I've never heard of anyone using a liberty trans. You'll need to find the trans, wiring harness, PCM. I don't recall if there are other items you need.

I would start by researching what trans options you have, what other people have done and gotten to work with your year/model.

I know the AW4 (out of an XJ?) is pretty popular. Though not sure it will work for you.
