How do you wheel your Jeep?

Most of my wheeling in the past has been in either 2hi or 4hi. If I go to 4lo, it just got serious. But those kind of obstacles, I'd try to go around first. Now with the 1st gear in the LJ with the six speed being 4.46, I really don't see much 4lo happening (I did try it on the test drive in 1st and 4lo). Heck, that's so low I've been treating it like a "grandma gear" and taking off in 2nd most of the time.

When I'm in 4Lo, I'm in 1st 99% of the time but if it's easy enough to have to use 2nd for more than 10-20' I shift to 2wd. I don't have any trails I can't do in 2wd that I'd bother using 4Hi for. I would use 4Hi briefly to get through a long deep patch of sand or mud but that's it.

Interesting. Up North here we cruse FS roads; ie washboard and washouts are the norm. Traveling 25-45 mph I absolutely use 4 H as apposed to 2wd as the handling is night and day better

I drive in 2wd until I get stuck then I check the situation, and see what I need to do, but most likely I put it in 4 low then hit the rear locker, then the front locker, and if all else fails. PLAN B (the winch)

I’m in 4 hi ASAP when I hit dirt roads and slick situations. Locking them up after you get stuck isn’t wheeling is it ? You got to lock them up beforehand

My thought is if you are locked up, and get stuck, you start running out of options. I like to have more options. I should have added that if I get good and stuck, I also have a hilift Jack that I can use to lift my tires off of the ground and push it over. Really my only fear is broken parts.

Do you know why you got stuck ? Cause you weren’t locket up

My fear would be popping myself in the jaw with that Hi lift
Embrace that fear.

Yeah the Hi lift can be intimidating. I have actually wheeled with one pretty much my whole wheeling life, and never had an issue, but if you don't respect it, that can definitely happen.

If you are out there alone, it is another option, and I say bring all of the options you can. It is pretty easy to carry one, so why not? Even if you are not alone, it is another option if everybody is stuck or broken. I never go wheelin' without it.

I really like my winch. But I'm scared of that steel cable too.
