Solvents dude...solvents.So WD40 is going to ruin a boot that holds petroleum based grease because it's petro based? Interesting.

WD-40 won't harm the boots but since it is a solvent and not truly a lubricant it should not be sprayed onto the u-joints or centering joint either.Solvents dude...solvents.
Maybe we should recommend what to use instead of what not to use !!!!WD-40 won't harm the boots but since it is a solvent and not truly a lubricant it should not be sprayed onto the u-joints or centering joint either.
a 50/50 mix of bacon grease and whale oilMaybe we should recommend what to use instead of what not to use !!!!
Sealed u-joints and centering joints don't need anything sprayed onto them. Greaseable u-joints and centering joints only require grease via their zerk fittings.Maybe we should recommend what to use instead of what not to use !!!!
I love it! There you go! Perfect.a 50/50 mix of bacon grease and whale oil
I find myself lubricating my TJ u-joints and control arm joints with WD40 every 500 miles. I feel it's sounds quieter and runs smoother? Who else waste their time lubricating and what do you uses? I kind of stay away from oil since I don't want oil stains residue around these areas. Since run alot a trail runs and don't want dirt and grease build up on my joints and control arm fittings.
Also should I consider other area to lubricate such as the water pump, power steering pulleys, shifting linkages and serpentine belt pulley?
Tell me your routine and what you uses?
What about using 10-30wt motor oil or grease on seal U joints.Sealed u-joints and centering joints don't need anything sprayed onto them. Greaseable u-joints and centering joints only require grease via their zerk fittings.
X2 on the red lucasI lube all front end zerk fittings every 6 months, and have been using Lucas Red 'N' Tacky. I think I saw it recommended here somewhere, so I went with it.
If externally lubricating a sealed ujoint changes its operating condition it needs to be replaced as the seals are compromised. What about using 10-30wt motor oil or grease on seal U joints.
There's no legitimate reason to apply anything over them. Not to mention it'f just turn into an oily dirty mess. Sealed u-joints are very well sealed, oiling the outside of them isn't going to be beneficial. What about using 10-30wt motor oil or grease on seal U joints.

If you let your rear main leak enough, just swap the filter every 3k miles and you will average fresh oil…. Just saying for a friend.Every oil change I lube her up here in the southwest desert
I used to work at a gas station near a college. Every break, I'd get students coming in for a fill up before heading home. When I'd check the oil, more often than not, there'd be a dry stick or below the line. I started calling it the curbside oil change. If you let your rear main leak enough, just swap the filter every 3k miles and you will average fresh oil…. Just saying for a friend.
