Independence Day?

Channel surfing this morning I stopped on several "news" outlets. None of them referred to this holiday weekend as Independence Day. Every one of them said "Fourth of July".
I guess this winter we will celebrate December 25th. ?

Absolutely! I hate that I have to identify as a Republican in all honesty because I think most of them are spineless cowards. I would like a return to the type of government our founding fathers had in mind. Sadly, the majority of the human population doesn’t want freedom, they want to be taken care of.

The left votes their values, the right votes their values, but liberals do not vote their values. The problem with this country is the liberal voter and the fact that they are beholden to the left.

Most people don't even know what freedom really is. The quote I read somewhere: "People don't want freedom, they just want fair masters." The best treatise on the subject is Rudolf Steiner's "The Philosophy of Freedom", but it is NOT an easy thing to read.

And yea, the GOP is not only a collection of "spineless cowards", they are also a party of slavery just as much as the left is. That's why I'm a Libertarian (Not necessarily in complete agreement with the party of that name) - which means I'm hated by both Left AND Right! At the moment, I'm supporting the Right in an attempt to get "the pendulum" to swing away from the Left and into the center where it belongs! That doesn't mean I want their ideal in its entirety either - I like to say that both parties are 1/3rd right, and 2/3rds wrong, but fanaticism of either type is anathema to me.

In my thinking, much of the support the Left now enjoys is a direct result of the Right's BS.

That’s largely one of the few reasons I vote Republican. They left has gone way too far with their insanity and they need a serious balance check.

When 1/2 the population votes for free cheese, cell phones, housing, check every month, health care.

This is not a Black issue or a White issue, this is a sorry low down people issue!!!!!!!

I can ride by 3-4 housing projects on my way home everyday and see a mixture of every race living there, all with nice cars and nice clothes.

This is why we are doomed, both parties are the slave owners the rest of us are the slaves.

Some just more enslaved than the others.

To the idea of freedom vs what we have now. Most people have grown up under the asymptote of this society. Freedom has risk with it and the game we've been playing with printing cash and corruption galore has provided a short (relatively speaking) time of unique property. That's what they know and will gladly give up independence for it. Freedom and independence from government comes with the risk of failure and with the reward of prosperity based on merit. That's the opposite of what our system is morphing into.

Just had our Flyby that runs from north to south down the beach. They come out of Portland and dog fight overhead a couple times a week from spring to fall. Nothing says patriotism like two fighter jets!

I’ve been fortunate to have traveled to Europe, Central America and Asia. None of these places have the freedom we have here in the States. I was talking with a Muslim fellow in Indonesia a few years back who was bashing the USA. He had nothing good to say about us. During our conversation I asked if he had the chance would he move here. Without hesitation he said yes. Most of the world is jealous of what we have here in this country. Ask any legal immigrant why they came here and they will all say it was for the Freedom and Opportunity we have here. The problem with our political system is extremism on both the Left and the Right. Both sides want to control what we think and do. I think more people need to travel out of the country to see how good we have it here.
