Not if you take the top off.

If you've ever wheeled with a 35" or larger on a external carrier, then tried either removing the spare or putting it inside the cab, you will notice a huge difference in handling. I know it's not practical for many though. Mine is usually on the carrier. Now that my back seat is permanently gone, I'm going to try to get it back in the cab.

I have mine insdie like this, its strapped to the harness bar and bolted down to where the seat belt bolts down. I also had it laying down flat, I like this better. its a 37" tall tire.

That’s another solution, but it looks like it impedes rear visibility. Maybe that’s just the photo angle.

I still think the position JMT has it in is best. I’d try to figure out a more secure attachment though.

Working on a second jeep to get them both out there so as long as one doesn't brake down I'll have one to go get it if I can't patch it.

Wheeling is so much better without the weight. Where I primarily wheel I'm not that far from the spare.

I fabbed a bracket that bolts to the fender wheel well and supports a lateral threaded rod that uses a nut through the wheel lug hole to hold it from moving left/right, and a strap over the tire to hold it from moving forward/backward.

It held no problem for about 6 hrs of wheeling, then worked its way loose. I tightened the strap and it was good to go again. I suspect a 3” strap with cletes would hold it better.

Was mounted behind drivers seat and so it did not impede visibility and still had floor space for storage.

It took 39sec to remove the tire.

How is this setup working? I'm considering doing the same type thing with my 4-door JL. Any advice on some else I might need to do to secure my 35" spare? Thanks

If I were re-building/designing it, I would make it beefier. As mentioned, it came loose after several hours of wheeling. My welding is better now. The bracket on the fender is fine, but I'd weld some square tube to it and then a 5x4.5 so I could mount it just like the spare on the tailgate. Shouldn't be very difficult.
