Insurance

Michigan has a no fault law, which I believe is one of the last in the nation. Basically, it means that all of us with insurance pay for every accident, regardless of fault. Only difference is that I don't pay my deductible if it's not my fault.

It's a stupid law...

That was the biggest shocker of all moving to Michigan. While it's nice for accidents that aren't my fault, I'm paying out the nose until that time may happen.

Here are my State Farm rates noting that neither my wife nor I have had a ticket or claim in 25 yrs and we carry our home with them. I'm probably finally going to shop around but because of our no-fault law I'm not optimistic anyone else will be better.
2012 JKU - $1500/yr (wife primary)
2005 LJ Rubicon - $1200/yr (my primary)
2004 LJ - $2400/yr (17 yr old daughter primary)
1985 CJ - $400/yr (low mileage option)

BTW, if we lived in the city limits of Detroit then these rates would easily double.

Yeah, I'm with AAA for my homeowners and my two primary vehicles. Car insurance is a tick over 2000 a year, PLUS I have 135 bucks in "membership dues. Then I have my TJ with progressive, and it's about 800 a year. The primary coverages are the same with progressive, but the secondaries are considerably less than AAA.

This is with a two driver household, neither of us have points, nor have made any claims beyond glass repair. It's ridiculous...

USAA Auto - $145/month - Max Full Coverage - 21 Y/O Male

My other family members have a much better premium, however this whole 21 year old dude thing isn't helping my insurance.

Yes! USAA! If you can get it, get it. I think we pay about $220 a month and that covers full coverage plus extra liability for 2 Jeeps, our renters insurance, and some extra riders for things like jewelry and other valuables. My husband was hit by a fraudster and sued and USAA was absolutely amazing through the whole process. Also, when you call a real person answers the phone.
