My son and I are in the process of replacing the intake/exhaust gasket on his '97 SE. The Jeep had a bad miss under load on was making exhaust leak sounds. When Max removed the bolts holding the intake and exhaust manifold to the cylinder head he found them so loose he was able to hand loosen five of them. The bolt closest to the firewall was missing. There was plenty of evidence of exhaust leaking as well. We also found that the made in China exhaust manifold was cracked. I bought a intake/exhaust bolt kit at Napa. It has enough hardware to do the 4.0 TJ. Included in the kit there are replacement bolts, two studs with 3/8 coarse thread for the cylinder head side and fine thread for the nut side, nuts for these two studs with attached washers, two more flat washers, and two plastic spacers. Doing some interweb research I found that the studs replace the bolts on the two outer most mounting holes. The questions I have are: 1 - what is the installation order of the extra washer and plastic spacer for the two studs? 2 - Since the new bolts have no included washers should I reuse the original hardware (bolt and cupped washer)? 3 - should I use Loctite on the bolts and studs so they won't loosen again?
