I repainted my dash, door panels, and console last summer. Mine was a 97 with the gray interior - I used the Thomas Bus Gray Color Coat from SEM. Honestly the original finish looked so run down I can't say how close this was to the original color, but it seems pretty close - the dash looks like new again (the final color was a little brighter than the cap looked online). I cleaned everything thoroughly, sanded it very lightly, and started with the SEM Plastic Adhesion Promoter and finished with the Satin Clear Color Coat. Looks great and so far it's holding up. The center console I did in SEM Satin Black - it always seemed like an extension of the center radio bezel anyways, so I decided to match it. All of the paint was available on Amazon.

So the match isn’t exact, and since a can of it was $24 for the light grey mist. I will keep looking for something that matches a little closer.

Did my dash (Top half above the glove box ) and speedo surround in black and got a colour match on the centre consul trim piece about 2 years ago and apart from the occasion touch up it holding up well....I think I used Krylon.

Did you sand, and/or apply primer or just paint it directly? Thinking about doing this this weekend.

Thinking of painting the dash. Would love to hear from everyone who did this to find out how the paint job is holding up.

In addition to typical concerns about peeling, cracking etc..I’m also concerned about how the paint will hold up against Arizona’s summer heat, where outside temps can reach 115-120F.

My interior was Spice when I first got it 3 years ago, the paint holds well if you do a good prep first. The center dash console and doors were black to start with. I added the texturizing to the side of the center dash console

I pulled off as much as I could and cleaned them with meths and washing up liquid then went straight to paint and combo of Bumper paint and Krylon...the center bit on my dash I just got my local auto parts place to make up some regular body colour match stuff...cleaned it and like the other stuff and painted it....held up for at least 2 years....prep is key though, its needs to be SUPER clean.(first time I did it its didn't hold up well)

Thank you! I wanted to repaint most everything black and do the front center dash silver like the color of the jeep its self.

I love the contrast. How did you paint the airbag cover, or is that the original color? From what i can tell, getting that cover off is a pain in the ass but i was thinking i could just isolate the area with index cards and lots of plastic sheeting.

Every screw holding the dash, trim and panels together are the same size Phillip's head screw. The airbag cover on the passenger side comes off when you take the dash apart. There are two bolts behind the trim that hold the "oh shit bar" on, but it comes apart very easily, I striped mine down completely to a bare metal dash when I painted all the trim.
