Intermittent crank but no start

Just bought my first Jeep and hopefully dove in with open eyes.
I have a 2000 Sport that has an intermittent starting issue. Occasionally it will crank but not fire. Turning the ignition off and then trying again reliably resolves the issue. I did a search through the forums but may ha missed the solution to this one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

See if you’re getting good fuel pressure, since it sounds like if you crank it a second time it’ll start. Any issues once it’s running?

No issues at all and it doesn't always happen. It cranks but doesn't try to catch at all. If I turn it off and try again immediately it will start. I was out running around this morning at it did it first thing but started reliably after that.

Fuel spark amd air check for these and get back too us

My guess since you say it runs smooth after you start it is the check valve on your fuel pump has gone and so the pump needs to be replaced

That’s what happened to me. When I went to depressurize the rail to do the pump, barely a drop of fuel came out. My jeep was starting if I’d cycle the ignition twice then go to crank. If the jeep was already warm forget about it. I’m sure a few people turned their heads to see what pos was sputtering out in the parking lot a few times.
