If you don't want to pull the cover an interesting test would be to see if you repeat this but with the driver's side spinning. You can do this by hitting a hill at an angle where the passenger's side is higher so there's more weight on that side.
If the driver's side spins then it's acting like a regular open diff, which should be impossible with no spider gears. This would tell you the locker wasn't installed.
If the driver's side can't spin and it's clearly still driving on the passenger side then the locker was installed wrong and is only engaging the dog teeth on the passenger side.
