Is it possible to re-key my half doors?

While re-keying mine, I also disconnected the push rod attaching to the internal door lock switch. So I can lock the doors from the outside with a key and they cannot be unlocked from the inside. It's a good way to prevent anyone from stealing your half doors.

Assuming you have hard uppers and a hardtop too. Is it common for people to steal half doors where you are? I haven’t met anyone who’s had their doors stolen yet.

I only run half doors in summer time when the jeep stays topless so the as-is door locks are worthless. We have a lot of car thefts and break-ins so it's more for my own peace of mind when I park the Jeep unattended somewhere. Lately stealing tailgates is the hot item.

Makes sense with the popularity of pickup trucks I'm sure there are a lot of rear end collisions requiring a new tail gate and plenty of body shops looking to get a good deal. They can be removed without tools, right?

One of the things I love about TJs now, the parts are almost worthless. I removed my wheel locks last year.

Those brackets work well. In my case, I just detached the internal rod that connects the latch to the interior lock button. I lock mine from the outside. Basically, if you can't open them you can't take them. :biggrin:

I was thinking of the same thing. Use the key to lock and you can’t remove the door. You think there would be a lot more door theft thinking how much you could get for them. But I don’t really want to make that public. I never lock my Jeep since they are too easy to break into. And my top is off majority of the year. But doors are a different animal.
