Re-key purchased half doors to match my TJ key?

From what I have heard the local locksmith’s are not interested.

My local locksmith had no issues and had it done the same day.

You can buy a kit to rekey your own half door tumblers to match your other doors. That is what I did when I bought my half doors.

Any links to the kit? How much, and do you have to take the door apart to get to it?

I won't likely bother because I have a soft top and soft Windows, so you can unzip from the outside. Though if it was super easy and not expensive, I might re-key at least the drivers door.

If you can lock it and disconnect the internal rocker switch for the lock, someone can't just take off your 1000$ half door set and walk off with them

They could just unzip the soft window, reach in and use the internal door handle.

Not too worried about it. It's parked in the garage at home. Can't see that happening on the trail.

I thought you could disconnect the lock from the handle so that the only way to unlock was the key.

But yeah I don't worry about that either, I thought that was the rationale behind it though

That would really be a pain to need the key to open the door 100% of the time. I usually leave the key in the ignition when on the trail. I guess you could leave the door ajar, but that would take a while to remember to not shut it.

This! Just call your local locksmith shop and I bet you'll be good to go. Had to key some locks on an old airplane. They were happy to help and very affordable. Will absolutely call them for any future vehicle needs.

I don't have half doors,but when I replaced the tumblers in various locks on my tj to get them all to match i got packs of Chrysler tumblers from Wolf security on ebay. Hopefully someone can point you towards which type works

I did this.. and then undid it.

You can. If you disconnect the rod, and then lock the door using the key you need to unlock with the key or pulling the interior door release does nothing.

True that with the rod disconnected and the door locked there's an added layer of security. I just opted to use the locks that of on the door pins and rekey everything just in case I ever sell the the whole lot...

$20 per and twenty minutes and the local locksmith matched both half doors to the keys. Returned them with new matte black bezels too. Can't beat that.

I looked but couldn’t find it. This was pre Covid when I did it. It was a tumbler rekey kit purchased on eBay that had the various wafers and springs. IIRC you take apart the tumbler, insert your key and align the correct wafers (1-4) in the correct positions.

By doing that I could use my 1 key for all doors. While not doing much I even added power locks to them as well. Completely pointless but why not?

I am pretty sure you can just pull the cylinders, put in your key, and grind down the tumblers even with the cylinder. It's at least a redneck way to do it.
