Is this normal for mileage?

Can someone tell me if this sort of mileage is normal and to be expected for the 4.0L engine. I could of sworn my old 2.5L was better..

Before you say its a Jeep, or Yes/No. The Jeep is a 05, 6 speed, 30,000km (all original) on the engine. Totally stock, except 31" tires.

This picture was taken yesterday as I returned from my round trip. Fueled up Friday, hit the highway this is all highway kilometers. Speed was 120km/hr (cruise) ~ 70mph. Basically it was pretty much empty on the tank at 388km.

Considering all highway driving, is this normal?

That’s about normal. I get 230-255 miles on a full tank. That’s 370-410 km.

Did you recalibrate the speedo after the 31's? If not, your speedometer is slower than it should be.

What is your setup? Totally stock? Because from the research and reading there is guys that run bigger tires, lift, more weight etc and they get better fuel mileage..lol unless their drinking some special koolaid..

Correct. Just fyi, a stock 4.0 is rated at 16/19 from the factory.

Im running 35s with 4.88 gears. Speedo has been corrected.

Thats about right. At highway speeds, I get around 13 mpg. I'm running 33's and 4.56's. You're not going to get much better than 220-250 miles per tank.

So with 35s you get the same mileage as me? Now how does that make sense? No matter if your speed is corrected or not, should you not be getting less MPG?

Yes and no. Yes I should be getting less. But I’m running 4.88 gears which keep the motor in the power band. Having a 5 speed also helps.

I have a 2000 stock tj that I just got on the road this year after a lot of work.This is my first jeep so I was not expecting good mileage from what I have read.It is a 4 ltr 5 speed.It shows 270,000 kms but with a fresh 80,000 km ( 50,000 mile ) engine.I shift at around 2000 to 2500 rpm and have on the first tank I got 23 mpg . I was totally shocked and pleased. On the hwy at 60 mph at 2000 rpm I have gotten 23-25 mpg with no problem. I have noticed at 2300 rpm at 70 mph the jeep runs fine but the fuel guage moves down quicker. I have 4200 kilometers so far but have never needed to run over 60 mph. I have never used my gps to confirm the speedo accuracy .I run stock tire size with no lift.Like I said I have been over the moon with the mileage.

Well based on my numbers, I'm at around 14MPG.

That's solid mileage. Hence the reason behind this thread as I recall the old 2.5L I had I'd get 20MPG.. also had 31s, with a winch upfront, and a 2" lift..

I'd love to go to 33s on the LJ with a mild lift etc.. but I'm already dreading this lol as the mileage will go down to like 10/11..
