I went into my local stop-and-rob yesterday to buy some useless goods. As I was checking out, the clerk asked for my ID to confirm my credit card.
Ok, I get that.
Then she gets a pen and starts to write down my DL number. I snatch my ID back (rudely) and ask her what that's all about.
"It's for your safety. Our manager said that any transaction with a credit card over $30 we have to write down you dl number because of ID theft"
Horse poo. I left.

In my state, your dl number is connected to your name, address and DOB and obviously my DL #. Good stuff for an ID thief.

I'm getting really tired of all of this "my safety" spin.
That's being done for them to try to keep from getting screwed over by the thieves, not to protect me.

I can't play ball at the local school any more because of the lawyers and fear of lawsuits, but they said "it's for your safety".

There's signs all over the lake and the parks telling me what I can't do "for my safety".

I can take care of myself, thank you very much.

Rant off.
Sorry.

That's bullshit, I agree. I wouldn't let them write down my DL number either. Never once have I seen or heard of this.

I was *****ing about it to a neighbor, he said they pulled it on his wife and she didn't think about it 'til afterward. She emailed a complaint to their corporate office. No response.
It's a small town. They'll either lighten up or close.

I'm just sick of entities mistreating me/us and camouflaging it as for my benefit.
My dermatologist just started insisting on having a credit card on file before exams. They are trying to spin it as convenient so we don't have to go to all the trouble of paying that pesky co-pay every six months
I'm out, see ya.

I guess since the airlines and FB etc have been getting away with it for so long, other businesses think they can too.

That's got to be some small town BS. Someone like Target or Walmart would never get away with that.

Ha, part of me can relate to this as a business owner. I often time ask for new clients to keep their CC info on file with me. I do that because I've been burned one to many times in the past by people who want work done fast, but want to take 6-8 months to pay me, after the project is done. It really, really, really grinds my gears!

I don't do that for existing clients I can trust, but when I get new clients, sometimes I find that they're so eager to have me get their project done, but when it comes to paying me, they'll take all the time in the world. When I have their CC on file, I just bill the credit card as soon as I'm done.

This is of course all outlined in a contract I make them sign before the project is complete. Sucks that there's shitty people out there like this, but I've run into my fair share of them. This one asshole still owes me a lot of money (from a big project) from months ago. I'm to the point where I'm just going to take down his website and hold it for ransom until he pays me.
