Jeep Green LJ Rubicon build (gonna be slow)

The end with the engraved line has left handed threads. I thought both ends required the same wrench though.
Okay. Yeah mine definitely didn’t. One was larger than the other. I found it odd too that both jam nuts toghten the same direction. I would have thought they should be opposite each other.

I did finally get all the lower arms on today. I had to go get cut off wheels for my angle grinder though. The front axle side bolts were seized to the bushing. Made for some interesting cutting and praying it didnt kick back and take my hand off. Also installed JKS sway bar endlinks and whoever thought it was a good idea to mix standard and metric bolts and use Allen heads instead of hex head bolts is a dumb ass!!

Was going to install the rear fox shocks as well but after trying to break the bolts loose I stopped. I’m just going to take it to my mechanic and have him install the shocks once the fronts show up next week. I broke off all of the rear bolts on my 04 rubicon trying to change shocks. Not going to deal with that mess again.

That would be my first car. 1971 Chevelle. My grandpa got it for me when I was 13. We got it road worthy till I got my license and it’s been a project ever since. It really doesn’t get much attention anymore and I rarely drive it. I actually had it out yesterday to wash it.

NICE! My first car was my mom and dad's (original owners) 1971 chevelle. I restored it when I was 15 (BACK IN 1987!!). Like yours, doesn't get used much anymore. My '04 Rubicon has kinda replaced it as my fun vehicle now. Love the LJ too. Sharp.

Unfortunately it only has 307 with TH350. Three years ago I pulled the motor & trans at 129k because I spun timing chain and valves kissed the pistons. Reworked the motor- mild cam, electronic ignition, intake, Dart heads, etc......and rebuilt transmission. Kept original short block as it has no wear on it (Oil changed every 2k all its life) and wanted to get it back on the road. Not a rocket but runs good for just cruising. Someday I’ll likely take the 350 I have and stroke it. This car was my first paint job bodywork too. New GM front fenders, door skins and full quarters.

sounds like you did a lot of work to yours too . What powertrain are you running?

It had a 350 when we got it, but it spun a rod bearing shortly after getting my license. Had it built to a 383 stroker. Guy that built it, builds sprint car motors so it runs pretty good. It could use some freshening up though. The heads need valve seals currently, smokes a little on start up. Still running a TH350, but on my 4th one. The last one I blew up was a TCI Super Street Fighter, since then the guy that built my motor, built the trans and its been holding up good. Rear end is still the stock 10 bolt with 2.73 gears. I have a 12 bolt with posi unit in the garage but it needs gears and built yet. Paint looks damn good, but the guy that did the body work screwed us over. There's issues all over it, most people people don't see them, but I do. Eventually I want to have it painting again.

Small update: Fox shocks are now installed. I paid my mechanic $80 to install them because I didn't want to mess with snapping off the rear upper bolts. I did that with my 04 and it was a pain to fix, I didn't want to go through it again. They didn't break any of them off, but they did have issues with them coming loose.

My Tom Woods front driveshaft should also be here by tomorrow or Wednesday.

The next couple items on the list will be Savvy upper control arms to complete the set, Tom Woods rear driveshaft and Currie steering setup.

Its quite amazing the difference the savvy lower controls arms made. My previous arms must have been shot for a long time because I don't ever remember my jeep handling this well before.

A little update: Got my Tom Woods front driveshaft installed and had some serious vibrations going on once I hit 65MPH. I adjusted my lower controls to as short as I feel comfortable going. I was able to get the Pinion at 9.6, but the driveshaft is at 10.6. Vibrations are still there, but start at 70 MPH now. I know the pinion should probably be at 11.5, but I need some upper controls to get there. Tom Woods is sending out a new shaft anyway to see if the vibration will go away, since I didn't have them with the Adams off-road shaft installed.

Going to probably order Savvy Front upper control arms this evening to be safe.

Also going to replace my Crown OPDA with another Crown OPDA. After getting home this weekend i notice a ticking sound coming from the OPDA and figured I might as well replace it. I installed the first Crown one at 12,000 miles and have 52,000 miles now. I've never had OPDA issue, hopefully it stays that way.

Well my savvy upper control arms showed up this evening..... Never seen control arms like this before...

I sure hope Savvy fixes this ASAP cus I need the controls arms for next Monday!

I'm liking this. I have the full adjustable short arm kit from savvy waiting to go in and I'm leaning towards their belly pan. Your build is helping alot.

A few of us are going to Rausch on the 13 if you want to/can join
