How does the static weight of a jeep vs the rolling weight make a difference ?
I have reduced weight on my Jeep by removing my Rock Hard 4x4 rear bumper, Hylft Jack and Rotopax gas containers that I carried all the time. After determining that I never ran out of gas on the trails that I do, and that after many years I didn't use the Hylft I decided to remove them. Also wanting to lighten the load a bit I removed the heavy bumper and installed a Savvy rear bumper. All in all I removed about 175# from the rear. I replaced my winch line from SS to Rope and saved a few more lbs. which I am assuming is all static weight.
Now its time fore new tires, I am currently running BFG MK2 35x12.50x15 which I am guessing is rolling weight. I am considering Huchinson Rock Monster wheels that I know everyone says are heavy but in fact are 10 lbs more than my current non-bead lock wheels. Looking at bead Lock wheels there is not a lot of choices in 15" that I like, so the other option is move up to 17's and new BFG KM3. When I look at the weights the same 35" tire in a 17" weights 8 lbs more than a 15". The weight of a 17" wheel is about 4 -5 lbs more than my current wheel. So if I stay at 15" w/ Rock Monsters my " Rollin weight " will increase about 10 lbs per corner so about 40 lbs. If I move up to 17's my " Rolling weight " will increase about 12 - 13 lbs per corner or about 48 -52 lbs.
So is adding 10 lbs per corner going to make much of a difference in the overall scheme of things since I have dropped about 185 lbs and looking to add back around 50 lbs including the spare ?
