JK wheels on a TJ

Been dreaming about wheels recently. Anyone know about a set of wheels that look like the newer stock Wrangler rims? Specifically the ones in the pic. I know you can get em, but only in 5x5 (or was it 5x5.5?) and TJs run a 5x4.5. Or how complicated would it be to go to a 5x5.5 bolt pattern with a regear of the axles?

I would also be interested in pics if someone has these wheels on their TJ.

Pretty sure they make adapters to fit newer Jeep wheels to the TJ, but more than that I can't say. I feel like there are other members here doing it, hopefully they will chime in.

Same here, thanks. I run Canyons on Destination X/Ts right now, but to have a set of winter wheels (Canadian winters, yay) for next year…

In my opinion using adapters , just demonstrates you bought the wrong wheels.

I’m running adapters to fit jk Moab’s. You can run adapters for those wheels. Running jk wheels with adapters is super cheap compared to all new wheels. I got 5 wheels for $50. I also don’t know of a single 17inch wheel that has a solid 4inch back spacing with 5x4.5. You can get that with an adapter on jk wheels though.

Install wheel adapters correctly and there is no issue.

You're wrong. People have been successfully using newer Jeep wheels with spacers/adaptors on TJs since the JK came out in 07'. I've used them a few times to run 12.5" wide tires on stock TJ wheels.

Could it be done? Yeah probably, but the point is I am trying to find a 5x4.5 wheel. Another potential failure point? I will pass for now.

I haven’t seen it on a stock axle, but one way to convert a Superduty axle to 8x6.5 is to drill the rotor and hub flange. You drill and press the studs in the middle of the original bolt pattern, kind of like how multi pattern wheels look.

I’m running an adapter on the 14 bolt instead, which allows me to use parts store replacements on the front axle instead of predrilling a set of spares.

I don’t know if quadratec has them in 4.5, but they have some of the more popular late model stock rims reproduced with better backspacing.

Those are the JK Rubicon Hard Rock wheels.

They'll fit with spacers / adapters. Personally I'd rather just run a set of wheels that don't require spacers / adapters, but they will fit if you have them.

Ah so thats what they're called. Good to know. Thanks Chris. Yeah plan is to find a similar looking aftermarket wheel in 5x4.5 rather than adapters.

Another note, JK and JL wheels have more offset than even stock TJ wheels. Looks like it's just shy of an inch per side, meaning drilling the hubs and installing them will lose 2" of track width (and possibly create clearance issues).

I've got 5x5 wheels with adapters. Now I did not do this, that's how I got it from the PO. I haven't had any issues and like a few have said, as long as they're installed correctly you shouldn't have any issues.

All that being said, I do plan on replacing them with wheels that have the proper lug pattern and backspacing when I inevitably move up to 35" tires and drop down to 15" wheels.

Yep, you’re right! They looked very similar to the wheels that were on my old JK:
