I was going to get a bagel in my LJ the other day, driving left and straight on a 2 lane road (left lane straight and left turns, right lane straight and right turns only)
when two guys next to me in the right lane turn a hard left in front of me trying to turn left, while I was going straight. I was going about 30, I don't know how fast they were going but I couldn't stop in time. I hit them (2019 Volkswagen Jetta). Immediately there car was disabled. I think its totaled. They accept fault and we get to talking and they show me their badges. Turns out they're NYPD detectives and that Volkswagen was an undercover police car. The accident happened in Westchester county (where I live) and am also in the police academy for the Westchester county police department. Cop came to take a report, when he came he was actually like "where's the other car?" my Jeep was totally fine, damaged one of the brackets that hold the fog lights. Their captain came and yelled at them lol.
Crazy how 6 months from me being a cop, I total an unmarked police car.

:ROFLMAO: When you look at it like that, it's hilarious! Glad you and your LJ survived none the worse for wear. And thank you for getting one more Volkswagen off the road! ;)
Haha these things are so worth the money

NOW I can agree with that.

Why not the older ones? Because I never even had a GTI but my three Rabbits were great cars and VW's air-cooled cars were a blast unless you were trying to go fast.

FWIW, I'll probably never own another VW because the company defended the dealership that screwed up more stuff on my New Beetle TDI than they ever should have touched while working on something else under warranty.

Yeah, I'm okay with that. The early Rabbits and GTI were a fun little car. I really like the Scirocco, too.

My wife won't let me get rid of her 2000 Golf TDI. 49 mpg, 100,000 miles, runs like a top.
My younger sister actually has a 2013 Passat we got around the same time as my last TJ.
I dumped over 3000 in that thing to keep it running and it got totaled by some drunk driver in the end.
Hers is still running fine, with no issues at all. The most she's had to do was change the shock absorbers.
