Looking at a tj

Looking at a 1997 tj with161,000 on the clock. 4.0 auto. Body looks great. Hard top. Front custom tube bumper dented. Owner says it runs great. I'm 3 hours away. Says only surface rust on frame. Any thoughts?

no thoughts without pics of the frame, every owners says only surface rust....until you look inside the frame. Buy yourself a cheap boroscope off amazon before you look at any TJ in a salt area....good thing the ugly tube bumper is damaged at least it will be easier to replace with a good one....lol

No way to know, but expect it to be a rusted out frame. Mine has almost no surface rust and had plenty of rust inside.

Michigan rig with 161,000 miles and the owner admits there is rust on the frame? Almost certainly a rust bucket.

Just talked to the owner. Frame was packed with grease by the previous owner. It just got backed from the bump shop. And he decided to sell it. Going to walk(run,) away from this one!
