I just got a 97 tj. New to the Jeep world. It didn’t have the 4wd linkage on it. I got the parts with it. But the piece that mounts on the body of Jeep holds the linkage in is too high for it. The Jeep has a lift idk what kind and i also wondering if my transmission is mounted right. Idk what too look for any help would be awsome

Can you post pictures of the linkage you got with the jeep, and a few underneath (lever from the tub and transfer case)? The stock setup is a Z-like linkage from the shifter to the transfer case.

Do yourself a favor and dump the linkage for a cable shifter, I kept my stock linkage way to long not realizing the incredible difference in its operation. Late last year while removing the linkage for a frame swap I noticed that all the workings were well worn and needed attention and it was not worth a restoration.

You may have a body lift that could cause the distance between the mount and linkage, or a suspension lift that required a transfer case drop. Either one would move things in opposite directions. Get the cable as mentioned above, it is much smoother than the linkage anyway.

Either way the cable is the answer .
Manually shift the actuator in 4lo, then raise those handle all the way up , drop it 1/4 “ for play, and use that as a baseline to set the cable throw. That way The throw is set correctly to begin with .

it is an awesome product and a true upgrade.

Either cable shifter you get will be an upgrade no matter what. I went with the Advance Adapters unit mainly because it replaced the shifter housing as well and I was able to seal it all up to keep salt from getting to it in the winter.

It's almost maintenance free and most definitely headache free. You can lift and lower the vehicle after you have it dialed in, and not have to worry about it not working.
