On my 2000 Sport (4.0L), 5 speed, I have replaced the oil pump due to noise and cleaned out the oil pan. At start up, it reads 50PSI on the aftermarket pressure gauge that is installed in it. When I drive, it goes up to 60PSI. After the Jeep warms up, the driving pressure drops to about 25PSI and idle pressure drops closer to 5PSI. I have taken the tube loose from the back of the gauge and drained the air out of the line thinking it was causing issues but the readings stay the same. When the line was off and the Jeep at idle, the oil flow was low...just a trickle. When I rev the motor up, the flow increases. Any ideas what might be going on here? Oil pressure is supposed to rise & fall in direct step with the engine rpms since the oil pump is mechanically driven by the engine. 10 psi per thousand engine rpms is the usual rule-of-thumb for acceptable oil pressure.
