Losing power at highway speeds

What size tires are you running?
 
He has a recent post complaining of 8mpg. He was thinking cats on that as well.
Buy a thermal temp gun. It will help you check your cats. Generally a properly working cat isn’t causing a power issue. However stranger things have happened.

I have 33" installed, I havent changed the tire size since I owned this jeep (coming up on 3 yrs). Just these last few months is when I am having this issue. I have been Tracking my fuel economy for the last year and was getting at best 12.5-12.8mpg before my issue...Im currently now getting 8.91-9.47mpg. Im not getting any codes, and I replace all 4 O2 sensors last year. Like the previous poster, When the engine is cool, its runs great, but when it heats up, thats when it gets sluggish.

What brand of O2 sensor did you install?
 
I did replace my frame just recently during winter, and the exhaust cats could of been thrown around in the shop loosing the cores. :unsure:
 
So you're absolutely certain this is a new problem? Certainly power will be a real problem with 33" tires and the factory 3.73 gearing, especially (!!) with the 42RLE transmission.

Yeah, its definitely a new problem... I am very picky on maintaining my jeep since I love her so much.

All the posts I have read, that have the same symptoms generally replaced their cats with reporting no more issues. I hope that will be my case.

Good luck! I had a clogged cat 11-12 years ago and it caused such a sudden major blockage that my highway speed dropped from 70 mph to 5 mph in less than a quarter mile. One of the two pre-cats suddenly disintegrated internally and blew its innards downstream plugging up the main cat.

Thanks! ... I will report back soon... I will try to get it replaced sometime early next week with a full report ... Gas is a commodity these days, especially in our rigs.

Just to let you know, I drive from Tulsa to Oklahoma City every sunday for work ... its about 110mile drive. I use to arrive in OKC with about 1/2 tank remaining...now I would be so lucky arriving...from a full tank in tulsa, to a gas light lit up on the cluster and gas gauge in the red! One night I almost didnt make it from a full tank of gas.

Whoever suggested 4.11 for 33" tires and the 42RLE needs to undergo some serious counseling on appropriate gear ratios for the 42RLE lol. 4.88 to 5.13 would have been much better choices. They would get your highway rpms where they need to be.

His profile shows a Rubicon, so must be stock axles.

@LJMolina I'd check your torque converter's stall speed (should be 2200-2500 RPM). Is your ATF fluid clean and correct level? Any TCM stored codes?
