Working through putting the auto harness in my formally manual 04 Rubicon and I ran across a strange Situation. Chrysler changed MAP sensors between the 03 and 04 model years...including the connectors. I remember when I was checking this harness out, the pinout was different than my 04, which at the time I thought was weird. Now, trying to plug the 03 harness into the 04 sensor, I see why. They are totally different. A quick search on rock auto shows that there are two different part numbers from 03 to 04 and I'm sure the parts manual would verify.

Anyway, my question is this...My MAP sensor has a crack in the housing anyway, so I'd like to replace it. Could I get the 03 sensor and expect it to work fine? I only ask because I can get a Mopar sensor for 03 but I can't get one for 04 (all aftermarket at this point). Anyone know how universal these things really are? @SkylinesSuck ever dabbled in this?

TIA

I don't know if those specific parts are interchangeable between different year PCMs, but the '03 on down use JTEC PCMs for sure. I know there is a newer PCM in some year TJs. Maybe '04-'06? Maybe just '05-'05. Not sure. Anywho, if they use the same MAP scaling and same 0-5v sensor voltage, I would strongly suspect they will work just fine.

If this was an '02 vs '03 thing, I'd say send it. I just don't know about '04 stuff at all.

And just as an aside, people who add boost to TJs with JTEC PCMs usually grab a stock SRT4 Neon 2 bar MAP sensor, wire it in, and rescale the PCM to "see boost." All the PCM really sees is 0-5v and sends the fuel you tell it to according to that (and other parameters like IAT, ECT, etc.).

What PCM are you running with the new harness?

Still the factory 04 PCM, which I believe is still JTEC. It appears that they used up inventory in 03. The cutover date in the parts manual is 11-02-02. I have one from an 03 on the way already. Will report back.

FWIW, 05 and 06 use a different map sensor too. Thanks Chrysler
