"Mechanical Relearn" for New Ignition Cylinder

Greetings all:

In looking for a replacement for my stuck ignition switch cylinder I am seeing "mechanical relearn required" or "not required." Can someone give me an explanation as to what this means and determining which is right for my '98 TJ 4.0/manual. It doesn't take a chipped key, has no fobs.

Not required. Slap a new one in there.

No SKIM...no key fob...good to go.

Just have to rekey it to match your key.

Or do what I did and purchased an ignition and all the door locks...keyed alike from Wolf Security.

PO gave me an ignition key... didn't work on the locks...and I had to order keys for my Tuffy glove box.
