Teardown has begun...
20210304_215259.jpg

Got the seats pulled, and the top off. Thinking about it for a little bit, I decided to start with all the exterior pieces first. So, I pulled the rear flares, rocker sliders, and started working on the rear end. Tire carrier was pulled. Next is the tails lights, tail gate, and tag bracket.

Then, I'll have to pause a moment to fix my tailgate. It has a split near the upper reinforcement for the factory tire carrier. Should be a relatively easy fix (famous last words).

I've been through this a time or two. Challenging, frustrating, but rewarding!

The mettle test has begun. . . . good luck. (y)

@Mike_H phenomenal progress my friend. That undercoating looks really great. I wish I could get this done locally somewhere but it would cost a ton I'm sure.

Disassembly is coming along nicely. I had to drill a couple of my tailgate hinge bolts, but most of them came out. Actually, I haven't broken any bolts yet, which makes things go much easier. Even the evap and purge pump came out relatively easy.

I'm working my way around the exterior. Got the rear done, RH front fender, hood, cowl cover, and most of the interior out. Had some help tonight too, from our new pooch.

Few more hours of work today I have the dash out, both fenders, center console, etc. I'm down to the harness and heater box, the firewall, brakes and fuel. I should be able to have it off sometime this week and out of my way. In other news, I think I'm gonna have it painted while its apart. My wife and I talked about it, and she didn't seem too put off by the price I was quoted (1900-2300) depending on how much finish work needs doing. This is if I do most of the metalwork (fixing the rest of the rust). That is bringing the shop all the pieces. I'm going to get another quote, but the first shop said he could have it done in time for me to have my trip to Drummond in the middle of May.

Frame actually looks good... If not a bit dirty...

And... The tub. The reason I'm going through all this BS

Tomorrow, I'll clean the dirt and mud off the frame. Gonna power wash it. Hopeful I have some garbage bags big enough for the power train.

Big step done though, and damn it feels good.

Oh yeah... Lifting it was sketchy AF. Will have to do better on re-installation.

I need a bigger shop!

I have a guy coming tonight to check out my old tub. Its decent enough that a good body guy could probably save it, now that its stripped down. If he doesn't want it, I have two more behind him, so I should get some space back. Nice thing is that the money I get for my tub pays half of the good one.

I did a thing today...

This section of my frame needs to be replaced anyway, so I'm doing a butt crack-ectomy. I'm 50/50 on replacing the cross member too. I'm going to try torching the frame out, and if that is too much hassle I'll just replace it.

My goal is to get all the frame stuff done (repaired / painted) by the end of March, which will give me a month to get my tub back on. It's a tight timeline... But I think it's possible. I might need a couple the day weekends, but as long as I don't need to buy a bunch of replacement parts (been working getting everything I need here, before I need it) I will make pretty good progress.

@Mike_H major progress, great work man! I am amazed that you did all by yourself. Jeep is going to be GREAT when finished.
I hope so! I have new upper spring perches on order, new steel for the frame rails in my truck, and a whole butt load of fab to do. Then paint... Then reassemble.

Ohhh... That reminds me. I gotta call my friendly Jeep dealer and order some brake line clips

well, like @taylormade73 felt a couple days ago...I feel like I screwed up. Tonight, in my haste to move the jeep out of the way of some other stuff (motorhome shit) I forgot that all those measurements were made, dropped the jeep onto the springs, and kicked the jack stands out of the way.

EDIT 3/19/2021: I'm not really an FML kinda guy...I was really upset when I posted this original message. I've edited the message after time to reflect. I left the mistake published, but pulled out some of the "I feel sorry for myself" BS.

Sorry bout that, y'all

After thinking about it all day, I think it will be OK. Its just a bit of extra work, as I'll have to throw the tub on, bolt the cross-member up to the tub, and tack the frame back in position. Its not a huge deal...but I was more pissed at myself than anything. I got in a hurry and made a bone headed mistake.
