I'm getting ready to finish the job I started yesterday by doing a 1" MML. In the instructions that came with the motor mounts, it says " On some YJ & TJ Wranglers vehicles, we have found that when lifting the engine, the engine mounting fork can contact the frame of the Jeep. If this is the case on your vehicle, modifications to the frame and or fork may have to occur."

When looking at the passenger side of my mount (from underneath) it appears that when the engine is lifted the mount will come very close to the frame mount. I have a suspicion that this is what the instructions are referring to. Any advice? or am I imaging things? Will they be close but not touching?

Mine touched, as have others. Yes, you will need to clearance the motor mount mount or the engine block arm.

I took a small grinder and fixed a 1/8" cutting wheel, lined it up between the two interfering components and let it cut it's way through the interference leaving a 3/16" gap between the engine mount and the frame mount. It was easy.

I wanted to see if it would clear without modifying it and didn't want to pull it back out. This way I knew it was going to relieve the interference. Plenty of room under there for the grinder to fit.

I wondered if I should just take the mount and the bracket out on that side, the same as I will have to do on the drivers side given that the bolt can't be removed due to the power steering pump.

They say you can bolt them together on the drivers side after removing for the bolt issue, to re-install but I couldn't get it back in that way and put it back in two pieces. The interference between the mounts is kinda hard to visualize while laying on the garage floor and I wanted to take out as little of material as possible.

Did you support the engine at the bell housing with a jack? Is this what you used to lift the engine the one inch for the new mount too?

Thanks

Bob

Well I just got done wrestling an alligator. I mean installing a 1" motor mount lift (MML) and a 1" lifted steering linkage bracket (all part of the M.O.R.E. kit). All is done, it took about six hours. If I dropped one more wrench or lost track of my flashlight one more time, I was going to scream. I'll bet I spent an hour looking for something that was dropped or right in front of me, but I couldn't see it. I spend another hour getting the correct size wrench, socket, extension, screw driver, impact wrench, etc.

The job went fairly well, it took a bit of playing around on both sides to get the jacked height of the engine to match up with the newly inserted motor mounts so that the pass through bolt could be lined up.

In the end, the passenger side didn't need any grinding to eliminate any interference between the frame and the motor bracket, it end up clearing by about 1/4 inch, which is good enough for me.

I was exhausted and hungry, so tomorrow I will do a final check to ensure all bolts follow my German method of tightening bolts.....good-en-tite

Thanks for all the advice!
