Gotta do it at least once. You could even rent a Jeep and have great fun and there’s many trails that most SUVs can easily do with some great sights to see. I hope you get to experience it one day!

yeah I'd have to hire, cant see my Jeep fitting in my suitcase....but Moab is on my list next time I take a trip to the States
A few years back, Moab cracked down on illegal UTV/ATV usage on public streets because of noise complaints by residents and business owners. It caused a lot of issues. Members of our branch of the off-road community believed it would be a slippery slope that would eventually lead to the banning of all off-road vehicles on the streets of Moab.
Every group, professional or recreational, has its bad apples that cause problems for the majority. Our sport, unfortunately, is no exception.

We, too, just returned from Moab. It was my first visit and I have to say it is the most fun four wheeling I have ever had. My wife and I were part of a CJ group that was joined by a friend in a TJ and a couple of folks that flew in and rented JK Rubicon’s. As the owner of a highly tricked out CJ5, I was impressed with the ability of the JK Ruby’s to do about anything that Moab threw at us. We did Chicken Corners and Hurraw Pass the first day - nothing particularly challenging but beautiful scenery. We then did Fins and Things and Hell’s Revenge. I missed Hell’s Revenge because of a mechanical glitch but was ready the next day for The Arches and a run at 7 mile Rim which lasted until well after dark. The following day we decided to make it a shorter day and since I had missed out on Hell’s Revenge previously, we did it again.
Back in Colorado Springs, we find that our local club has scheduled a Moab run for Memorial Day weekend. Wife and I decided to do it again and this time in the TJ Rubicon. I’m getting it ready now with a new Supertop NX soft top with the flip back sunroof and am having a set of BFG All Terrains in 33 X 12.5 X 15 installed. This time, I’ll know what to expect.
We, too had “experiences” with UTV’s. A couple of years ago, I was ready to buy one. Now I hate the damned things.

Very nice! We will be working on ours through the summer and see if we can return in the Fall. I’m debating on selectable lockers now because even with 31” all terrains we did pretty well so they weren’t needed much. 7 mile rim and Elephant Hill are next on my punch list. Can’t wait to get back.
It’s pretty sad that the UTV crowd seems to act differently. I’m with you on that.

i rented a jeep from twisted jeeps also when i was out there in june. first jeep i ever drove and it was in Moab. now i own a jeep ,
The RZRs remind me of Jet Skis when I used to own a boat. Probably a ton of fun, but load and most seem piloted by annoying folks. That said, we did meet a group of them at Stoney Lonesome that we’re pretty cool.
I try to get our Jeeps to the side of the trail when I hear them coming. Just not in that big of a hurry when off-roading.

I know the owner from twisted jeeps after renting from them many many times and he is a great guy with awesomely equipped jeeps that are very reliable. My dad actually won't even take his to Moab and will just rent from twisted lol.
I personally hope they ban UTVs in Moab someday. Just since becoming popular they have destroyed many trails by making bypasses, driving 60 mph on a rock crawling trail, and gunning it around every corner. I'm a big fan of UTVs and would definitely own one if I didn't have a jeep but I just don't believe they have a place in Moab that already is under the spotlight with environmentalists, we don't need to actually ruin stuff there and give them more evidence.
Being from CA, I hate the word "ban," since CA seems to like to ban anything and everything fun. Instead of a ban, place a speed limit on the trails and enforce them. Hell, we have speed limits on mountain bikes in some of the popular mtn bike areas and they are enforced pretty vigorously.
How about "restrict"? Lol, jk. Actually as I have thought about it a little more I think it might be good to just limit speed like you said or just designate some trails as mixed use meaning OHV and MTB and maybe some that are really under the environmental spotlight or that have been beaten up go through a period of lighter use or maybe just 4WD use only. I don't know, I can't pretend to have all the answers, I just hope something smart is done soon so we don't lose a unique area like Moab to 4WDs. One of my favorite trails down there that use to be tight for larger 4WDs is now 2-3 lanes wide and it's a shame. Maybe it's not all UTVs and maybe it's more of a land respect and trail purity consideration that is lacking. I hate seeing people ruin trails by creating a bypass for everything and increasing traffic 10 fold so that people with equipment that have no business being on said trail can say that they have "done" it.
Just don’t be a dick when you pass me and I’m good. Don’t rev at us with our tops off because you were annoyed that we were moving too slow for you. I don’t mind letting you through at the right spot at all but I really got a bad taste because of the way that most of them acted down there on this particular trip.
