Moab, Utah Trying to Control UTVs

So it seems from what I am reading that 9 out of 10 times it's a certain type of person driving a UTV. I'm not sure what type of person you'd even call this, but the first thing that pops into me head is a "bro".

I wonder what it is about UTVs that attracts this type of buyer?

I'm not so much trying to make fun of anyone, I just find it interesting that these things seem to attract a certain type of person perhaps.

They aren’t your typical off-roading folks.

These are people who buy or rent for the gram!

I gave up on the dunes here in Oregon in 2014. Was done when all the bro’s want to do 70+ mph and not care about others when you have a huge and heavy machine they can’t stop.

Your observation is spot-on. I think it's pronounced "bruh" though, right?

There are also alot of older retired (Gray people) that buy them to get out and explore old ghost towns and other places with their friends.

I agree with that. I'm just not ready to give up my UTV, so I ride with people that have the same style of riding that I do.

Up in northern PA where my hunting cabin is, they just opened up a bunch of the townships for trail riding. The township where my cabin is did not open up and they have "No ATV" signs up everywhere. All we see anymore is groups of them riding everywhere. We have a private lane and bridge to get to our cabin and a sign that says "Do not enter", every time I'm up now, atv/utv come riding down our lane to get to some old logging roads behind our camp. Now we are thinking of adding a gate to the lane to stop them. Additionally the land they are headed to doesn't allow riding during hunting season, but that doesn't stop them either.

We did see the a game warden escort about 10 of them down the road once, I am assuming they got in trouble.

I guess I should elaborate. We have a good club of UTV owners up here over in the Bend area. Older riders and good folks.

But the bad ones really give the good one a uphill battle.

I live in north central PA, and see the same thing. You need more than a gate, they will go around and leave a torn up trail. We put up a gate for our camp, and steel pipe fence welded together for about 20 yards on each side of the gate. Beyond that, we pile up cut down trees.

If you make it so they might spill their beer cooler, they won't go.

Many of the local forestry roads are only open during hunting season. Every gate the DCNR has put up has a path around, unfortunately, the path is too narrow for my jeep :)

I was thinking about going to the Bend area to visit a friend that just moved up there and was going to tow the SxS up behind the motorhome. Heard there was some good areas to ride.

I'm ready. :)

Do you know some good places to go?

I do not, but if your on FB, the Bend group is on there and happy to show you.

I could recommend the HooDoo area, but this time of the year is full of snow. Lots o places to camp and ride but it’s snow country so snowmobile trails are the UTV trails this time of year.

You have already gotten snow up there?
