So I got the ZJ rod today (Moog DS1312) but noticed that the joint did not have a zerk fitting on it (or a hole for one). It was one of their "Problem Solver" units; would that be the explanation? The pic of the order shows the zerk and end boot but I received neither. I think the missing boot is a problem but that should be easy to correct so just wondering about the missing zerk. Anyone have any experience with this?

Doing the ZK upgrade (along with a bunch of other work) & Just had the same issue... Mine was missing the bag that includes the Boot, Zerk, Nut & Cotter Pin, also ordered the Moog DS1430 which was missing just the Zerk. Call & was told then needed to ship out entirely new unit because Moog won't send out just the missing pieces. (they actually said they can't get just those pieces from Moog).... Waiting on delivery.... & then I still need to do the returns...

Sounds like Moog needs to step up their Quality Control program. I had planned on doing this upgrade next winter. Hope they get things right by then.

Yep I was missing all that. I got it from Amazon, the end of the Moog box was blown out and the packer just put it in shipping box and sent it on. Bag is most likely on the floor at the distribution center. I hope the other stuff has no issues.

I sort of agree.... The DS1430 missing the Zerk is on them.... it is just not in the sealed bag..
The DS1312 showed up with the end of the box destroyed... so it is in part the company I ordered from (a reputable company) shipping departments fault & Moog fault. First off why would Moog put a small parts bag loose in a box with a 10+ lb part sliding around in it??? (how about taping it to the rod)
& then why would they not have just the small parts bag available as a replacement... you know they are just sitting there in the warehouse....

Also disappointed that some of the Moog parts showed up painted but the majority bare with some light weight oil on them.... Oh well... coated them myself...

Sorry for the rant... we ship electronics all the time & never have issues when packaged properly... off my soap box...

I had the same problem. It kind of ticked me off. I contacted Moog and they said they don't sell that part individually. Since I ordered it from Amazon, I just went to them and they sent me the whole tie rod end again. When I went to package the initial one back up, I actually found the small parts bag stuck in the paper stuffing inside. Major face palm with that.

I bought mine from rockauto.com and it was well packaged. Why buy from Amazon, they cost more and apparently have no idea how to ship anything.

I do completely agree with you on packaging... but .... mine was not from amazon.... & was part of a 1K plus parts order (not that the amount matters & not knocking rockauto.com either)... There really is no excuse for not packaging things correctly at the manufacturer level.. no matter who the shipper is... UPS, FedEx, USPS, Amazon..etc ... & parts missing in a sealed bag have nothing to do with the shipper... that is the manufacturer...
We ship & receive a lot of high end electronics with out damage...

I thought it was a fair price from Amazon. I received the tie rod end in the Moog package so it wasn't packaged by Amazon. In the end it was my fault for not looking closer. The return process to Amazon was very fast also.

In terms of price I have to be carefull when buying from Amazon. My county and state taxes are 8.3% so they are not always cheaper. For this project the draglink was cheaper from Rock Auto but because of shipping Amazon was cheaper for the rest by about 15.00.

My guess is somebody bought a cheap store brand and returned it in the Moog package to Rockauto and that's what they sent you but I'm a cynic these days.

So contacted Moog today they stepped up and are sending me the correct parts. Not one bit of hassle from them. Apologized and asked where to send the replacements.

Going through the same thing. Ordered through Amazon the DS1430. Amazon box arrived undamaged and the Moog box inside was sealed at both ends and undamaged. Opened it up and no zerk, no boot, no castle nut or cotter pin. Called Moog, they initially told me to call Amazon but then transferred me to Cust Service. She took my info and said she would call me back with an answer. That was five hours ago. Called the parts store and they want $270ish for the Moog and $82 for the MasterPro.

Anyone know if there is a generic boot that would work? Not worried about the other missing stuff.

Not my DD, so not a big deal in that regard. But man, whats the deal with this DS1430? Lots of hits on Google of it happening. A lot. The DS1310 is supposed to arrive on Thursday, fingers crossed its all there.

I just purchased all new Moog steering for ZJ upgrade, like many others 2 out of 6 Moog parts were missing hardware (cotter pin, zerk, dust boot, nut). To my surprise, the ZJ tie rod came with an extra ZJ tie rod!! No hardware of course. Thinking they might be good Chinese knock offs as the Moog stamped dust boots might be harder for them to replicate. The hardware usually missing also has Moog logo. If anyone was wondering if this issue is still happening- it is as if this date. Other Moog parts look fantastic I might add

I had the very same thing happen with my Moog box, missing, boot, nut and zerc. I had Amazon ship me a whole new box and I did not have to return the original. I had to argue a bit, but convinced them they could either ship me the missing parts or ship me a whole new unit. Their piss poor packaging was cause for a 6 week project delay, there was no way I was re-packaging their failure, driving across the UAE to the FPO and shipping it back. I don't work for Amazon. I'd rather have my parts on time and packaged appropriately then get an extra free tie rod end I don't need.
