I use a piece of 1"x2" wood that is 12" long. I slide the right end (in this pic) in first and the left end catches the bolt where the hinge mounts to the body. One of these days I'll get around to painting it black so it doesn't stand out so much.Is there anyway to hold the tailgate open, I can only assume that with a 35" tire mounted if it is on any kind of a slope it must want close. And I can only guess it may want to slam closed. I am looking to go from my HEAVY Rock Hard 4x4 bumper and tire carrier. Don't get me wrong it has held up very well and taken lot of beatings, I am just thinking of loosing a few pounds off the rear
