MORryde HD tailgate hinge install update

Is there anyway to hold the tailgate open, I can only assume that with a 35" tire mounted if it is on any kind of a slope it must want close. And I can only guess it may want to slam closed. I am looking to go from my HEAVY Rock Hard 4x4 bumper and tire carrier. Don't get me wrong it has held up very well and taken lot of beatings, I am just thinking of loosing a few pounds off the rear

I use a piece of 1"x2" wood that is 12" long. I slide the right end (in this pic) in first and the left end catches the bolt where the hinge mounts to the body. One of these days I'll get around to painting it black so it doesn't stand out so much.

Along the lines of these gate prop ideas, something I've been thinking about is a way to slow the opening at the outer end of the gate's swing. With as much momentum as the gate and tire generate, I've been concerned that the ExoGate stops at the hinge will shear off some day if I'm not careful.

My concern too. Need something that performs like a soft-close hinge

A pneumatic strut should slow that down. And hold it open too. It's just a matter of getting a strong enough strut and measuring where to bolt it.

And finding a spot to put it without being too much in the way. That could be tough to do on a door that opens well past 90deg. My initial thought was a split chain and spring like we see on a screen door.

Definitely an upgrade on my list in the future
