Need help with UK specific seats

I have a UK Wrangler TJ Grizzly edition. Nothing in anyway special about it, but it does seem to have different seats to most TJs...

The headrests are adjustable and the black plastic part between the main body of the seat and the headrest itself is only really a cover that limits downward travel and covers the 'arms' unless they are raised up.

I don't think I have spotted this type of seat in any other TJs I have seen on here, are they unique to the UK Grizzly edition?

I find the seats pretty comfortable but I am not a huge fan of the fabric on the seats and so covers would be on the list of things to do if I could get some, but I am guessing the covers for the more usual one piece seats would not fit very well. Any thoughts on covers? The alternative would be replacement seats or to get these ones reupholstered, but those ar eboth pricey options so would be quite a long way down the list of things to spend on.

With those plastic pieces I think you're missing eyes nose and mouth on each of head rests.

Seriously though, I don't remember ever seeing movable head rests in any CJ or Wrangler so I did a google and ended up here, which is here to some degree. It doesn't give a lot of info but I do see head rests in the second picture so I guess they're Grizzly seats.

It looks like the UK version of the 60th Anniversary had the exact same seats. This video is pretty dreadfull, but fast forward to 1 minute and they look just the same...



I think the 60th Anniversary was available in many countries, but was it only the UK version that had these seats? Maybe they had some left in the parts bin so threw them in the Grizzy that came a few months later? But even if that is true, where did the 60th Anniversary seat come from?

Maybe, though now I know they are the same as a UK 60th Anniversary I have just found a seat for sale on eBay, maybe I should buy them and hold on to them for parts.
Of course, if I ever sell I will be sure to include... "...this model comes with the ultra rare adjustable headrest seats...". Given the low volumes in the UK TJs with those seats could be about the rarest TJ out there, must add at least $10,000 to the value

Honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to buy a spare set and hold onto them. Many of us do that with TJ parts since even in the US it’s getting very hard to find some parts.

Take the headrests out it would look great topless with old skool type seats!
Store the headrests and get some seat covers from a MK1 Cortina

I dont think UK had as much US styling influence as say Australia but more European, Highback buckets have been a big thing in US and Australia I think since Muscle cars which Europe didnt have.
I remember coming to Australia in 1981 and driving around in a Falcon coup and the thing that stuck out was the Highback bucket seats where UK cars had head rests..

Yup, both slide and tumble.
I have no issue with the seats, they are very comfortable. It is just the issue of finding covers that seems an issue.

Headrests are for safety in the event of accident, getting hit from the rear mainly. They help to prevent whiplash.

Unless you are a gangster in your low rider, then you have your seat pushed all the way back and reclined with your head back so the “B” pillar helps to block the bullets when your cruising the ’hood.

I ride bikes, no headrests lol and I hate reclined seats I have had way too many cars before headrests were put in , before Millennial drivers were made that is

On a serious note those headrests may be a safety feature preferred in UK?
Also Highback buckets block the forward view for rear passengers and everyone in Blighty is a back seat driver lol

I believe most UK TJs had the one piece seat, so I presume they must be considered fine for UK safety rules. I have to say though to my UK-centric eye the one piece seats do look a little 'alien' given they are not the norm here and maybe also a bit old fashioned. But I am biased of course

I’ve got these on my 60th Aniversary and had a couple of occasions where I‘ve been able to fit something in by removing the headrest.
I know what you mean it’s impossible to find a replacement cover

I wish I had headrests in my ‘91 Silverado. In ‘99 I was siting still waiting on oncoming traffic to pass so I could turn left on a 2 lane road. I was rear-ended by a drunk driver that had no headlights on after dark at about 50 mph (police report estimate). My head snapped back and busted the rear glass and I’ve had neck and upper back problems ever since.
