This is true, particularly on smaller systems like our TJ. The best place to start here is having it evacuated & recharged by weight.You cannot properly fill an AC system with that crap you buy at oreillys. You should really consider taking your jeep to a shop for AC work.
Where I’m going is that the if the system is not charged to correct weight then the compressor will produce pressures that are outside of the allowable range. The compressor may turn on initially, then shut off when commanded by the pressure sensor. As the pressures return to normal the compressor kicks back on until it happens again. When the compressor runs you’ll get cold air, then it will get warm when it shuts off. An easy way to tell if your compressor is running while it’s blowing warm air is to look at it and see if the pulley is spinning.Can you tell me how much freon it takes? If the compressor is off bc of the sensor, would it still blow cold? I get intermittent cold and hot, mostly cold but it the air gets warm occasionally.

Yeah, it's not like the old R-12 days where you could ballpark it & be fine. Hell I filled the r-12 system on my old Mercury one time with butane & it worked for over a year. Newer r-134 systems are much more sensitive. Have you ever messed with R-1234? My neighbor asked me last year why the dealer wanted something like $350 for an evac & recharge on his new Cherokee, I had no idea that stuff is so expensive.I have worked on a lot of automotive AC systems and I would never even attempt to work on one without a proper AC machine.

You need to be 609 certified with the EPA to work with this refrigerant.
The machine you use needs to be calibrated specifically for this refrigerant.

Lol, I was just trying to add to the conversation, no reason to bowNot to date myself, but I went to school for A/C back in the mid 80s. Most of my background is with Industrial and Commercial refrigeration and A/C equipment along with the occasional automotive.
Automotive air conditioning is a far cry from VFD driven centrifugal chillers so I will bow to your automotive A/C experience.
