New engine, what else should I replace?

I have a 4.6L golen engine on a slow ship to Asstralia to replace my old 200,000k plus 4.0L
I have just replaced the starter motor and I'll replace the alternator fairly soon, I have a new clutch kit and flywheel, master & slave
It will come with the new high flow water pump option. The only other thing that has been replaced on the engine since new (apart from the obvious, plugs, radiator, hoses, etc, etc) is TPS and the o2 sensor that sits beside it.

The question is... is it easier to replace cam & crankshaft sensor, oil pressure sensor and anything else you think might be easier to do while the engine is out before it goes in?

Jeep your original flywheel. Replace the ring gear if you need to. The original flywheel has a dome, or convex shape that helps with smoother clutch engagement. Just hit it with some course sandpaper (65 grit) to take off any glazing and put it on. Didn't see you say anything about a power steering pump. Bee sure to completely flush out the entire brake system while you are there too.👍

I changed out the OEM flywheel a long time ago for a replacement (if had burn marks and cracks) but I thought that the replacement had the same convex shape, not sure but it seems to work ok. Is there a recommended new flywheel that replicates the OEM?

Now that you mention it I did replace the power steering pump and box about two years ago so all good to go there and I plan on replacing brakes latter as I might as well get some more use out of what I have because the braking system works well at this point.

Off topic: I have the teraflex rear disk upgrade and two things I don't like about it is the clappers ratetel (unless you have your foot riding the brake pedal) and the park brake is even less effective than the OEM setup, so that sucks, otherwise they work well.

I'm not sure about all the sensors, I'm not having any issues with the sensors in the current 4.0L but should I just change them over to the new 4.6 or buy new ones?

What I have done in the past is reuse the old sensors (cps, oil pressure, etc) that I know are good for first start up. On flat tappet cam engines especially, you want the engine to start quickly without alot of cranking. Alot of camshaft failures come from improper break in.

If you have a sensor from your old engine that you think is failing by all means do not hesitate to put a new one on the new engine. Odds are a new sensor out of the box will be good, but I have seen bad new sensors.

Back in the day ( I might be getting old) when we would rebuild an engine, we would put a known good used carburetor and distributor on for break in . It just eliminates possible issues or unknowns.

I've had a few bad TPS units out of the box so that's a good point, I know the cam and crank sensor work so I'll use the ones I've got : )

It's definitely a good idea to change things out one at a time

Thanks

Are you using the old EFI? You can pull the injectors & have them cleaned & tested.
Also take the radiator in & have it flushed & tested.
New water pump?

Check: New 24lb Fuel Injector Kit included with the 4.6 Golen
Check: Radiator in tip top condition
Check: Flow Kooler - High Flow Water Pump included with the 4.6 Golen
Thanks.

This flywheel worked perfectly for me. It was much smoother. I used the Luk clutch kit and a National throw out and pilot shaft bearing. It has taken everything I throw at it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K0XO64/?tag=wranglerorg-20
Awesome, been looking for a good quality flywheel and that's really inexpensive, thanks for that link
