New Genright highline hoods

Just maybe reading too much into things? Guess I need to go to bed instead of making comments. I was just seeing this turn into another bashing thread. I'll bow out.
Not bashing at all, and hope that I am wrong. Just hope you don’t have to cover it in bondo and sand the shit out of it for hours to make it work. Fiberglass can be tricky is all.

GenRight would do themselves a favor in trying to match that ...

Matching, or exceeding for that matter, "AEV quality" isn't the issue. Getting people to make the purchase at a price that makes sense for Genright is the challenge.

Definitely agree. Price point is a tough thing to figure out. Consumers are finicky beings.

My sense is the $650 DuraFlex hood they were selling was quickly realized by many as a POS and at that price GenRight is getting negative feedback/publicity, just my gut feeling. I believe the carbon fiber hood came onto their site a little later, and was $999 iirc, as an attempt to offer something better. I have not looked around to see if anyone posted comments/reviews on that hood to learn if it was a decent option. At that price point though, it had better be close to a paint and install option, imo. Since it was dropped and the DuraFlex kept, perhaps it was not better, or the price point was simply too

I think GenRight sees the opportunity that if they bring about a quality highline hood, that is a paint and fit type product, and at a GOOD price point, they can sell more highline fenders. The carbon fiber option may even be nice enough to be just a bolt on item. I see carbon fiber hoods for the import car crowd that are left unpainted. I've never closely inspected the quality, though, but seems carbon fiber in the raw is appealing to some. And perhaps GenRight view this as an attempt to bring back something AEV had which was a complete highline fender kit. Granted, AEV keeping the stock look is attractive to some and GenRight's more rugged look is for others. I like both, but opted for GenRight for the ability to take hits and not bend the nice AEV fenders.
:cry:My duraflex isn’t junk! Take it back! It’s practically plug and play! This is a special cow spot coating made by BONDO. Shhh its secret.

Yowza! Have you done anything about the backside stiffeners that may or may not be attached to the outer panel? And have a plan for holding the mesh in place with something better than the wire ties it comes with?

not yet, I could drill some holes and pack it full of bondo glass lol. For the wire folding tabs, it’s super janky and how it’s attached via some little resin tabs but I don’t mind it. I’ll probably leave it alone.

edit: today I might be able to finish body work and start epoxy and high build primer.

Definitely interested in what all you need to do to make it fit, as best as possible. My buddy and I have not started down the fit check road yet. He's gotten all the flaws filled and the latch indentations filled. Mine is still ornamental in the garage along with all the other boxes of Jeep parts.

just got the 2k primer on and guide coat. Will need to fill in the pin holes. It’s coming together though.

Progress is progress. Looking better

Did you add those tabs for the mesh or they came from DuraFlex like that? Mine came with wires bent to hold it in place. Super JANKY! Mine was bought June 2018.

The hood they were offering last year was made in MI iirc.
I recall reading that as well. This one from off-roadfiberglass could be from the same source, or maybe they copied that one from MI. If they were the same hood from the same supplier but GenRight was charging nearly double, that'd be something.

I bought mine used and haven't really looked at it too much. Been thinking I might just paint it black and call it good. But I am a long ways from needing to worry about a hood.
