New member with some basic questions

Not to hijack this thread, but my wife is giving me grief about the TJ I just bought for my son. It's an 04 Rubicon, 4.0L manual, with 150k miles. AC, stereo, lockers, paint and interior all in great condition and it has never been wheeled and always garaged. Had to put two new matching front tires and a new soft top on, but got the TJ for $8750. I think that's about $4-5k on the good side.... Am I right or do I owe my wife a helping of crow?

That actually sounds like a hell of a good price to me for a clean Jeep with no rust. I've posted picture of some comparable Rubicons in my area, all of which are considerably more than what you paid. I hope it helps convince the wife! My husband was skeptical about what we paid for mine until he saw what some others sell for!

Thanks! I show her the "comparables" and an she says that's not what people are actually paying. That's why I need the "pros" to confirm my good deal. And yes, no rust and nice paint. Too bad my son won't get his permit for another 10 months. I guess I'll have to drive it regularly to make sure it stays within specs!...

I test drove a Jeep at Just Jeeps of Texas, and he is very firm on his prices. He does not haggle- what you see is what you get. All that guy does is buy and flip TJs specifically. You can also tell her I recently got an '05 Rubicon with 58K miles for more than twice what you paid. It's a lot lower mileage, but the Jeep you got has plenty of miles left in it, too.

Also, oh no! So terrible to have to drive it for the next ten months! I am actually thankful I got a manual because it has kept my husband from trying to trade me his Jeep Grand Cherokee for my TJ!

And my wife and I are doing the same thing with our TJ. Daughter cant drive for a year, but we got a third we vehicle we can all enjoy. Hell, by the time she gets her license we might decide she needs to drive my Ram not the TJ to school, practice etc. She has also been warned the TJ is not hers. It stays with us when she decides to move out, then shes on her own for a car.

Yep. Manual trans and a cage. And limited seating for his friends (might just take the rear seat out soon). Actually he'll be one of the only boys with a Wrangler at his high school. All the girls are getting nice new JKUs....

You couldn't have made a better auto purchase. Most just don't understand that the 4.0L at 150k is just getting broken in. These things hold there value too. Take care of the TJ and it will take care of you

I think you got a real good deal too. I basically have a twin. 04 rubicon 5 speed, with hard top, no soft top, needing tires, and a couple other issues. Paid 9800, and thought it was a good deal. You did better than me...
