Same guy, same slightly faded, completely unremarkable red Ford Econoline van, same parking lot, conveniently and coincidentally near an enclosed ATM island. It was either "they fell off the truck" or "I'm doing deliveries and it looks like the warehouse loaded up an extra pair by accident". Yeah, right, buddy...

Side cutters or flush cutters? They're two different types of diagonal cutters. Flush-cutters are designed to, as the name implies, "cut flush." Using side cutters will always leave a sharp tail to cut your flesh. Flush cutters won't. Adam Savage has a good video showing the difference between the two (I didn't watch the entire video, but in introduction, when he says "nippers," he's referring to side cutters):

Either, I’m sure they’d need them on occasion but the last panel shop we had the lead builder had several zip tie guns so he never had to adjust them. He’d put on hundreds of ties a day.

We had a project in an Indonesian ship yard where the workers would toss tools into the water for other guys to come in using an air compressor setup as dive gear and they’d retrieve the tools to sell back to the shipyard. It’s an imperfect world out there.

Big Thanks to you guys for letting me know about diamond cutting disks for metal. I do a lot of scraping metals and have to cut apart various machinery to separate the different metals in order to get the best scrap value out of them. I’ve always used abrasive wheels on my grinder. I’ve used diamond wheels for masonry but never knew they had them for metal also. I picked one up from HD the other day. The amount of metal I’ve cut with it since I got it would have used up several abrasive disks. It still looks like new.

I’ve always used abrasive wheels on my grinder. I’ve used diamond wheels for masonry but never knew they had them for metal also. I picked one up from HD the other day. The amount of metal I’ve cut with it since I got it would have used up several abrasive disks. It still looks like new.

Do you cut aluminum with it?
 
I haven’t yet but it should, other wise the abrasive disks do. I have cut the copper wire on electric motors and it worked better than the abrasive disks.
I got approx $5 of copper, $.50 of brass and $.50 of steel, aluminum and zinc so around $6 scrapping that 30s or 40s era fan. Not much by its self but it all adds up. I take a load of scrap in every 3 months or so and average $800 each time I go. scrapping has been a hobby of mine since grade school and I enjoy taking things apart to se how they work. Next load is paying for a 20 ton air/hydraulic press. I have a shit ton of water pumps that I need to press the steel shafts out of to separate the Al from them.
My friends know I scrap and they give me stuff all the time so I have a never ending supply. A friend gave me a set of wheels Fri and I’m going to use some scrap steel to weld up a car for around the shop.

Just like this site I learn things. I learned for my Corvette site about a new tool. It is a brake fluid moisture measure tester. Manufactures of Dot 4 Brake Fluid recommend changing the fluid because of moisture. Just over $10.00 on Amazon.View attachment 676169

If I was to wager, I'd say most vehicles on the road NOT under regular dealer/garage service are likely long overdue for a stop juice refresh. Even then, it's often overlooked.

Glad you posted this. I forgot my buddy mentioned it and I've been burning through abrassives like crazy.

Does the cupped Type 27 one you have do a decent job grinding, too?

Would be interested in one for the chop saw too, but it's like 10-20x a standard 14" abrasive and they last so much longer as it is.
 
Haven’t used it for grinding yet. It might work for light touchup but I would not put much lateral force on it. Depth of cut is about 1.5” on my Craftsman grinder and 1.25 on my Milwaukee grinder. I had to cut a 3” cast iron drain pipe that was buried under a concrette slab. I dug around the pipe, removed the guard and was able to cut all around the pipe to make a clean edge where the pipe had snapped off. Don’t know how I would have accomplished this without this disk. Perfect example of how one job pays for a new tool. I also used it to trim a 2” ABS pipe that had snapped off on a different drain pipe. Melted it more than cut it but I cleaned the cut with a knife before the plastic hardened. My Craftsman grinder is a 3rd spare so I’m going to keep it mounted permanently because I can see me using this a lot in the future. I’ll buy 2 more for the other’s boxes.
For the limited cutting I’ve done with it I would have gone through at least one abrasive disk.

My Plumber wanted $4+ to do the job. I did it for $150 in materials and a little physical labor. With the money I saved I’m going to buy my 20ton air/hydraulic shop press.

I have a problem...

Did I want one? No.

Do I need one? Nopes.

Old low mile air cooled Miller spot welder and timer. Got it from the same place I got this . They also have a 4'x2' CNC plasma that no one knows how to use either (that I do not need) that I wish they would throw away :D
