The odd thing is nobody mentioned that the snake falling out of the sky was likely because the hawk dropped it, and that's why the hawk was "Johnny on the spot..."

Yeah, I figured that out from the headline but you’d think it would be stated in the story for those who couldn’t figure it out on their own.
That's the most likely explanation for sure. But not the only posibility.

I heard about him on The MeatEater Podcast a few years ago. Pretty noble pursuit and fascinating story!
I guess they did include it in the data.
The ANES survey includes detailed variables for political ideology (ranging from "extremely liberal" to "extremely conservative") and party identification. In related discussions of this data:
- Political Divergence: Analysis shows that political leaning is a major factor in these ratings. While most racial groups demonstrate a consistent "ingroup bias" (rating their own group more warmly than others), research using this data has noted a unique trend among White liberals.
- Outgroup Preference: Data from 2016 and 2020 indicates that White liberals have increasingly reported an "outgroup preference," meaning they rate other racial groups (Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians) more warmly on the "feeling thermometer" scale than they rate their own group (Whites). By contrast, White conservatives generally maintain a slight ingroup preference, similar to other racial and ethnic groups.
I think this is exactly how I would have guessed the data would have gone before seeing it. The range for conservatives is tighter but they only had white, hispanic, and other republics, I'm guessing the data is not significant enough to include for black republicans.
