OEM heater core discontinued: Best replacement?

Order one up as well. The worst that will happen is they'll refund your money (and maybe mine too).

I've had some sellers have incorrect prices displayed (which I jumped on), and then I got a refund the same day due to "pricing error".

Either way, that price is unreal, so I'd order one and see if you or I get lucky!

If I have to wait a month to get it, I'll wait.

5073180AB has tons of sellers. All say OE Mopar. There was one review for the part I bought and the buyer said it was in fact Mopar and is identical to his stock heater core.

This one just had an additional zero in front of the part number, but that should be inconsequential.

I’ll let you know when (and if) I get mine. Always nice to have a spare laying around.

Have you guys tried Davey's Jeeps? It would be a salvage but its Definitely OEM

If it was a 20minute driveway install, sure, take a chance a used heater core will last 5 years. But changing a TJ heater core is a 5 hour job for guys who do it all day.... so, no I'll buy anything new over a used part.

DeWalt had 4 digit part numbers for years, Then WalMart said they wanted a container load of drill drivers for every store for Christmas. "Whats yer best price?" 102.00.... Wal Mart said we'll pay $82.00.... we need them here in October..... DeWalt traded steel inside parts for plastic, added a 2... and sold them everywhere.

We had guys who shopped at WalMart claiming warranty thru us. You get what you pay for.

Normally I might be concerned, but I checked out the sellers feedback on Amazon and they've had over 1600 reviews in the past 6 months, all positive. In addition, the description on the page says "Genuine OE Mopar part".

Worse comes to worst, I can easily return it via Amazon, so I'm not worried. I guess we'll see! If it is OE Mopar, then I'll be happy!

Maybe I am missing something, so here goes. I am also in need of a heater core. I stopped by my local Dodge dealership and asked about a heater core for a left hand drive, 2005 TJ, 4.0. I was told yep, $380.00. I ask if he was sure? I explained that it is near, if not impossible to find a Mopar heater core for a TJ. He said," I have 87 Mopar heater cores and can have one here tomorrow." I explained that I did not want an after market product, that it had to an OEM Mopar heater core. He replied, "This is an OEM Mopar heater core and that I could order one and if I did not like it or it was not a Mopar product, that I did not have to pay for it. He went on to say, that the Dodge dealership could not sell non OEM parts."

Is this even possible????

I think there are two different part numbers for TJ heater cores, one for early models ('97 to ??) and one for late models (?? to '06). Not sure when the changeover was. Based on this thread, it seems like the early model may be discontinued, but the late model may still be available.

Yes, this is possible. And he is right, dealerships don’t sell parts that are not OE or OEM.

In addition, I have no doubt they have 87 heater cores. You can still get them aplenty for the later 05-06 model TJs, as they are a different part number than the heater cores on the earlier model TJs. Those earlier heater cores are no longer made and the dealers don’t have any stock of them is my understanding.

Well, the one I ordered from Amazon shipped out yesterday and it says it's expected next Tuesday the 28th.

So, for $111, let's see if it ends up being a genuine OE Mopar heater core like the description said.

If so, that's an awesome deal I scored.

Stuff is getting harder to find. I just bought a Mopar intake manifold new for $178. Don’t know if this is a good deal, but it’s the only one I could find.

I think that's a pretty good deal if you ask me! I paid $500 for a set of brand new, OE Mopar door panels. They're sitting under my bed in the original box, for no other reason than I decided I wanted a spare set... just incase.

I think I snagged the last pair, because they no longer sell them anymore.

I’ll just pass this along in case it helps anyone. I might give this guy a try. I don’t know anything about this seller but he looks to be parting out a lot of TJ’s and has quite a few heater/ac assemblies for sale in addition to just about everything else on a TJ. https://ebay.com/usr/baseline4x4

I’ve been to this shop three times (hitch, passenger side front axle shaft, and once just to see what they had) and been very impressed with selection and how friendly Jarod Feichter is. He has a good reputation locally with the Jeep groups too. You may have different experiences than me but mine have all been positive. It’s located in a little town called Albion, Indiana.
