Off switch for HVAC fan?

Thinking about adding an off switch for the fan. I rarely turn the HVAC system completely off which means the fan is always running. This could be contributing to the common melted plug issue. I assume I will still get outside air/vent without the fan running. Another option would be to just disconnect the low speed. Any thoughts?

I'm talking about being able to turn the fan off without turning the system off.
Most of time the fan isn't really needed, I just adjust the temp. When I do want the fan on, I usually turn it up higher than low.

I'm admitting my ignorance here...but I guess I don't get it.

At least on my 97 the blend doors are all vacuum. The fan is electric. And they operate independently of each other.

My sliders adjusts the vacuum and the doors...I guess the AC position on the slider and possibly the defrost activate the A/C clutch.

My fan switch is 4 settings low to high.

Do you have any idea how an hvac system in a car works?

If the fan isn’t moving air, the hvac system isn’t doing anything to cool or heat the cabin.
 
I have the common issue with a fried resistor so the fan only works on high speed. I can tell you with the fan setting on low, which in my case means the fan is not operating at all, there is not any noticeable air movement through the vents. I suspect if you install an off switch you will get the same result, no air through the vents.

I think you still get fresh air in through the cowl...faster you go the more airflow.

I don't think there's a recirculating door. At least not on my 97...

Come late August I put my hard top on and I have a battery powered HEPA filter to help out with the thick smoke days.
