Its just a steering stabilizer (damper). Don't over think it because any local parts store brand will work.
Gas-charged steering stabilizers like from OME can tend to push the steering towards the driver's side. I'd just stick with a good quality hydraulic stabilizer like from Rancho, Monroe etc.
I replaced my stock steering stabilizer with an OME largely because it matched my shocks. It does a good job of muting whatever wobble tendencies my front end had. I don't notice any issues with it pushing to either side.
Yep, used one both of my TJs, and they work great
It is just a steering stabilizer though, and even if you remove it entirely, you won't notice it.
They do very little to be honest.
OME here as well, no issues with under or over pushing the steering in either direction. An alternative would be Monroe from a local auto parts store, or online. Monroe SC2928 should be the one for you.
Got mine with the OME stabilizer. No real problem, but changed to a regular hydraulic one when revamping my steering system. Any (meaning cheap) one will do. A gas charged may, may want to push the steering a bit. So why pay more for a potential problem?
I need to replace my Damper on my 2000 TJ and have been reading that Return To Center (RTC) like a Tough Dog are a good alternate for a oem?
I'd like to know what your thoughts are?
The damper really has nothing to do with a good return to center, that's more a function of your caster and toe-in angles. Rancho's hydraulic RS5000 is a good inexpensive steering stabilizer/damper with all the parts needed like the replacement tapered stub. Monroe is good too, no need to spend a lot of $$ for this particular part of the TJ.

There is no way in hell I would put one of those on my TJ. If your steering is setup properly you don't even need a damper, but just in case, get a $30 Monroe or a $40 Rancho.

The Monroe is currently ~half the price of the Rancho ($30 vs $60) is there a reason to buy the Rancho over the Monroe?
I have a gas charged steering damper (Fox) and have had zero issues with it causing pull. The centering effect of caster vastly overwhelms any force provided by the steering damper. On flat, straight freeways, the car will maintain the lane without hands on the wheel for 30+ seconds at 70+ mph before eventually drifting onto a line. Just as good as any other car I've driven.
The OME stabilizers aren't gas charged. The only one I'd use is the OMESD48 that is cataloged as a JK fitment but provides a firmer feel at the wheel than the OMESD40. I installed the OMESD48 on my LJ with the stock tire size. As far as cost goes, I'm sure I'll look back and think the OME was a bargain after i see the tab for the PSC hydraulic assist setup.
