Outboard shock question

Definitely intrigued about the change for a mostly on road daily driver. Rear horns need to be patched, which will be a great chance to notch and add the outboard towers

Outboarded and tuned shocks make a fora nice daily driver! :)

I have yet to hear someone complain about the currie tb
About 10-11 years ago, we were struggling with the JKS version of the Currie rear trackbar because it was bent like the rest of the crap out there. I had John send me one and we spent some time mangling it up so it would clear shit better and sent it back to him. They came out with a version of that not long after. I don't recall the exact stuff we did and I think John even improved on that some. Then he built the angled track bar mount for the axle and it all works pretty well together.

Not even close.

I can see by looking at the top view of the Currie bar a nifty little bend. That bend, I bet, would be a helpful place to have it.

You picked which fucking hill to die on, not me.
I guess I can't argue with that logic. Momma always told me, you ain't perfect, but you clean up real nice.

Yet another response I totally expected from you, lol! Also helpful. See, we're starting to narrow it down. It's like pulling teeth!

I believe Jeremy was fighting this with the JKS option, but I also think he was trying to keep as much wheel base as possible, so his sacrifice for doing that was to cut the cross member. The Currie bar must have magical properties!
Yeah, I'd just go with the Currie if I could do it all over again. Of course, I can't testify from experience, but I tried the JKS with the JJ and the Currie rear angled trackbar bracket and it crashed into the gas tank skid at less than stock wheelbase. I then tried the Core 4x4, which was initially 5/8" too long, because it's designed for stock TJ's without a relocation bracket. They sent me another shorter one, I used it with the same Currie rear angled trackbar bracket, it was better, but when I pushed it to full stock wheelbase, it hit the crossmember where that passenger side center bolt is that I cut out. You know the one. So, I'm assuming from all the glowing reports that the Currie is magical and gets around all that. Combine it with a Savvy GTSkid and I think you'll be more than golden. Now I have slightly more than stock wheelbase, so I'm happy.

When I ran the Currie rear bar and bracket with a standard length sye, the bar would just scuff the front of the crossmember. I took a quarter inch off the front lip on the crossmember to take care of it. When I switch to the super short sye, the axle rotated enough to give quite a bit of clearance.

I am just trying to figure out if there is a benefit to outboarding other than just running better shocks. You know, like better suspension articulation and such.

The main reason for me to outboard is getting the shock out of harms way. I also kind of wanted a sleeper Jeep. You can get decent up/down travel if you mess with the stock mounts. The problem is getting in a tight spot and having to back up. When you back up in a tight spot a low hanging shock is vulnerable. Outboarding raises the lower shock mount behind the axle tube and less likely to be damaged. It is not too bad if you are ruining $50 shocks, but it you are using $250+ shock it is not so good.

You keep Jeep parts in your house? Wow. Are you married? 🤣
Yeah, the wife changes the game on Jeep work. Mine filed for divorce after she walked into her kitchen and saw this...

Jeep - R&P 4 (51).webp

I rebuilt the engine for my Suzuki Samurai in my kitchen. The GF at the time wasn't real happy with me but there was snow on ground and I only had a carport. I was damn glad it was an aluminum engine.

Hey all, bumping an old thread for some guidance on going straight toward out boarding and 12” shocks or starting with bolt ins and evaluating from there.

05 LJRU End goal of 35s with a balance between on road cruises and off road trails around the north east. So far I’ve got the below parts, I’m just hung up with selecting shocks. Pretty much the “if I’m doing all this anyway should I just” conversation 🙄.

*Currie 4” lift
*currectlync
*1” BL, MML, UAM Skid

Also working through good threads on the forum covering brakes, gears, axle shafts etc. I appreciate the input.
