P0344 - Camshaft Positioning Sensor

For the last month my 2006 Wrangler X (4.0L) has been in the shop 8 times with a Cam Shaft Positioning Sensor issue.

We have:
1. Replaced the sensor (2x)
2. Replaced the CSP housing
3. Performed service bulletin 25-005-13 Rev A (modifying wiring in the Power Distribution Center)
4. Updated my computer with a 2009 update
5. Service Bulletin 18-015-09 - Selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

I did also discover some rats or mice had chewed some of my wiring and wires were replaced at air intake sensor on drivers fender well.

I took some photos of a yellow wire that seems to go from the Cam Shaft Positioning Sensor to another part that seem to be exposed. Could this be the problem?

What brand of sensor did you replace it with?

I was told Mopar

I just looked at the box they put my old Camshaft Synchronizer in and it has the logo “Dorman”. Is that an after market brand? I’m guessing it is.

*sigh* I even specified to them it HAS to be mopar! Smh. I pray this solves the problem!

It should. I had the same problem not to long ago and i was replacing all sensors with mopar except I couldn’t seem to find the mopar CPS. So I got a cheap local one from auto zone that had good reviews.... I knew better and still I fell into the cheaper trap. Replaced with mopar and no more problems. I hope the shop didn’t charge you for all their exploratory work especially since you specified mopar.

Just stumbled across your dilemma. Did that resolve it?

I wanted to replace my Camshaft sensor when I replaced the OPDA (which stands for Oil Pump Drive Assembly), but I had to put the old sensor back on. I even called Crown and asked why I could not use the sensor that came on the new OPDA. They recommended that I use the old one. I then asked why does Crown make a cam sensor that does not work? Needless to say, the tech I was speaking to had no answer for my obvious question.

I think the Genuine Mopar phenomena is a load of crap. I replaced mine with a supposed Genuine Mopar Cam sensor from Rock Auto and it too threw a code. It would give a code as soon as I turned the key! I had no choice but to use my old sensor. I think the only cure is to drive around with a glove box full of old sensors pocketed from the local pull & pay

Anyway, Jeni, did you get it fixed?
