"Pacing myself" build

Finally got a call back from Adams. They couldn't find anything really wrong. He said it had a tiny bit of runout, so they are sending me a new drive shaft. Can't really complain about that, now can I? I installed a now rear output yoke and will re-visit the play on the output shaft.
I have a strong feeling that 1/4” of play in the output is what’s causing the issues. That’s a significant amount of slop.

Well, unfortunately, I haven't totally eliminated the vibes, in which case, my fear is the vibes I have been dealing with the past 3 years has finally taken out the rear output shaft bearing on the t-case, which would explain why my vibes got way worse recently. I'm going to put a dial indicator on the rear yoke and get an accurate measurement of the in/out play to see if it is an acceptable measurement, or if I need to pull the rear housing.

Drove the jeep in to work today in anticipation to receiving my drive shaft. Revisited the t-case output yoke play with a digital caliper. I'm getting 0.020" of out play. That is not very much, so I'm not thinking it's the t-case.

With any luck, the driveshaft will cure the issue. If not when I replace my T-case hopefully in the next year you're more then welcome to plug it in to see if it helps.

Thanks my friend. We will see hopefully today if the drive shaft shows up. If it doesn't help, I'm spending tomorrow ripping shit apart till I find the culprit.

Here is how it's gonna go down if I have to rip and tear,

Put the rear on jack stands, pull the wheels and run it up to speed. if vibes,
pull the rear axles, stuff rags in the axle tube to contain the gear oil, then run up to speed. If vibes,
pull the ring/pinion/carrier, run up to speed so that all I'm spinning is the pinion shaft. Something is bound to rear its ugly head, I hope!

You may want to place your phone in such a way you can record what is going on. Also, so you can share it here.

Do any of the mechanics have a stethoscope you could borrow?

No, but I did have one of my techs feel around while I had it on stands and at speed. He felt a lot more vibe in the rear diff than the t-case. FedEx just showed up with drive shaft #3. Wish me luck.

There’s always the old broomstick trick for listening to mechanical noises.

Good plan 👍 you can play with the ebrakes to mimic some of the load unload on the drivetrain. Obviously don't do too much to burn them.

I am really hoping it cures it for you. Keep us posted. I am going to be doing the same (ie new rear ds) when Dave does my suspension work.

Welp, good and bad. The new ds helped, a lot, but basically set me back to what I had before something let go. I still get vibes above 65mph, about the same intensity as before. My guess is that whatever has been giving me the low range vibes for the past 2 years went and trashed something in the ds. While not a fix, it leaves me with a direction to go, of sorts. Gonna sleep on it tonight and come up with a plan to move forward tomorrow.

Did you torque the SYE to 150?
