Part numbers and resources for constant tension hose clamps

I picked up the clamps today and wanted to run this by you. One of the hoses is a Gates 22900. On O’Reillys site it’s listed at 1 13/16 ID on one end. With a caliper it’s approx. 2 1/4 OD. Clamp 14088 specs 2-2.25 inches ID. Clamp 14087 is 1 3/4 - 2 inches. Would you go with the smaller clamp? That’s what I’m thinking since the larger one would be at the max outer range. Or the larger one?

When you measured the hose diameter did you measure it on or off the inlet?
Was doing some research and they should be measured on which makes sense.

I went with manufacturer specs on the id, then I went with the smallest wide open clamp that would fit over the hose. I’ll get back in a couple of hours how it worked out.

Here’s what seems to be working. Lower radiator, Dorman 14086. Water pump-14088. Upper radiator-14086. T-stat-14087. I’ll update if I find any leaks.

You don’t happen to mean 14087 for the lower rad do you?
OD for the lower hose rad end is 1⅞” but the max diameter for 14086 is only 1¾”.

@Jeepnford I’m probably driving you nuts by now but those clamps still holding good or haven’t you had much drive-time since putting them on?
Gonna be ordering a few parts so gonna get 14086/87 if they still haven’t had a problem for ya.

I hope I’m not too late. The Dorman clamps leak. I finally drove it today. I would try to find factory style.

How do clamps leak ??? Do they say “MU 47” “MU 42” or “MU 55” or any other number after “MU”

The Dorman clamps are not stamped with anything. I used the smallest ones that would fit over the hoses. They

The Dorman clamps don’t seem to have much clamping force.

Looks like they work fine and dandy. Like he said in the OP, 42 for the upper radiator hose,

47 on the thermostat housing, 47 on the lower radiator hose,

and 55 on the water pump, even though Amazon said it wouldn't fit my '01.

I also took the OP's advice and bought the pliers.

They made life a LOT easier. A little bit of a PITA to get it in place on the water pump, but I was able to get the clamp in place. I had to take out the coolant reservoir and remove the belt, but it's on there and so far, isn't leaking.

Thank you all for this thread. Very informative and helpful.

Just ordered everything for mine, hope yours is holding out OK, I see you haven't been back here.

I know this is an old post, does anyone know if the "47" listed for the clamp for lower radiator hose (at the radiator, not the water-pump) is referencing the "MM"? I'm about to order from Clips and Fasteners and want to be sure I'm getting the right size.

thanks in advance!
