Performance Radiator Heater Core

The TJ's radiator is very difficult to repair since it's sealed at the top and bottom with an adhesive. More easily repaired are radiators that are soldered together. The Jeep dealer tried to have my 97 TJ's radiator repaired when it was still fairly new and the repair failed within an hour or two after they gave it back to me. TJ radiators were failing like crazy then so the radiator shop that repaired it ended up installing a new aftermarket radiator.
Radiator or heater core? I’m referring to repairing the heater core.

For what it’s worth, I replaced the heater core in my grandma’s 2002 Cherokee almost four years ago with a “Spectra Premium” aluminum core. Yeah I know, it’s made in China, but it works like it should. No leaks, keeps the cab nice and toasty when she needs it.

FWIW years ago I replaced a leaking heater core in a '94 Chevy pickup (which is SO easy) with one from NAPA, lasted a couple hours. Took it back and got a replacement......guess what? .........#3 was the charm and lasted at least ten years. Moral of my story, it's luck of the draw, which isn't much consolation with a TJ.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Perhaps the Spectra core is worth another look?
Looks like you were working on a Grand Cherokee which has a different heater core. Here's a link to the early model TJ core made by Spectra.

I ordered a Performance radiator heater core for my 05 LJ based on the info in this forum. First one I received was the wrong part.
What was wrong with the first core that Performance sent you? Was it for the early model TJ?

Also, what brand was it? Another one from Reach?

First one was simply the wrong part. Core for a JK I believe. Unsure of brand

My wife was just going nuts with the 1-2 palmetto bugs per week we were finding belly-up on our floors. They were already dead from the residual bug treatment chemicals from the previous owners. She'd shriek and scream for me like there was an alligator in the house lol. I ended up having to sign up with Terminix to get rid of them.

look for some demon wp at your local feed store. it’s the shit for killing crawling critters. ain’t a bug around my place that stands a chance.

This spring I was replacing my heater core along with the entire cooling system on my 04 tj. Since the performance radiator heater core was out of stock at the time, I went with spectra. Now that it's getting cold out again, it's obvious that the spectra does not work nearly as well as the OEM core did. As mentioned in another thread, the thick plastic turbulator in the spectra significantly blocks the flow. The spectra works well enough to keep the cab "warm" when it's cold outside, but I miss how hot the original was before it exploded haha. You would nearly burn your hand holding it in front of the vent. I can also confirm that the spectra doesnt leak, so if you live in a mild climate then maybe that is the one to get. I, however, will be swapping in the heater core from performance radiator, now that it is back in stock.

when I first moved to florida 35 years ago I stayed in a cheap by the week motel. Right outa the 40s. Laying in bed i saw a GIANT 4" long cockroach scaling the wall. WTF I went to the office to report. The gal sais "oh that's just a palmetto bug.". Spiders, ants, toe biters, no see'ums, mosquitos. We even had a alligator in the back yard for a couple weeks. Bobcat at the last place. He was a handsome devil.

We use a local outfit to deal with it. But even still you are going to find an occasional bug.

Next you'll be complaining about the rain, hurricanes, hot.

But my snow shovel still has original paint,

This is the level of heat output I'm getting with the Performance Radiator core.

Good plan.
