Picking up where I left off

Damn, GenRight is fast! Ordered the Boulder fenders just the other day and they say they'll be here tomorrow.

Just imagine if Savvy actually had their shit together like this

It's been over 2 weeks and I'm still waiting on a friggin' steering skid from Savvy. It's a good thing I like their parts.
Lol, I ordered my savvy steering skid so long ago I forgot I fucking ordered it. Thanks for the reminder. I'm either old and forgetful or they are slow at getting parts out.

They are slow as shit. Those guys really need to get it together at least in the order fulfillment department.

Had some fun today off-roading at Rolls OHV and Butcher Jones.

What are the temps like out there this time of year, Chris?

What are the temps like out there this time of year, Chris?

60-70 in the day time.

At night it will get down in the 30s to 40s usually, and sometimes if you're way out in the desert (away from any civilization) it can get even colder.

One thing people often overlook is how damn cold it can get in the desert at night and right before dawn. The exception being the summer time, where it's hot as hell at any time of day or night.

Here's an interesting fact:

Those mountains behind my TJ in the photo (and in some of the other photos) are the Four Peaks mountains. The tallest point is 7,659 feet tall. This is a very prominent mountain range in the Phoenix area and on it is the only commercial amethyst mine in all of North America that produces some of the world's finest amethyst.

In the winter time those peaks are usually covered in snow. The pictures don't make the mountains seem that tall, but trust me, they are towering in person. Much like you all know, photos simply never do things justice.

I'm betting you put more miles, if you haven't already, on this jeep in 1 season than the old khaki one the whole time you owned it.

It's awesome to see you getting out so much. I can't say I blame you though because rocks are addictive and they're outside your door.

Yep, you would be correct.

A big part of it is the move. I'm finally in year round good weather (well, what I consider good weather at least), have countless numbers of good wheeling spots all within very short driving distances, and I have a TJ that doesn't feel like it needs to be built, it's just done for the most part.

Being trapped in Oregon for so long just felt like my mind was in some sort of permanent state of mental depression due to the horrid weather. Arizona feels like a dream come true.

I now make it a habit to go out wheeling every single weekend.

Any update on getting around to start installing the fenders?

Yeah, I just need to get some paint tarp so I can put these new fenders down and paint them with the Rustoleum spray on bed liner.

I was going to powder coat them, but I feel like the bed liner will be a better choice as it's a lot easier to touch up if they get scratched, plus this stuff actually comes out really nice since the texture is much smaller than bed liner that they spray on with a paint gun.

Should have that done this evening so I can install them tomorrow.

How’s the hydro steering going?

I'm missing a 90 degree fitting for the reservoir. Blaine is sending me a new one so that's what's holding me up.

Also, I'm working with Blaine to create detailed installation instructions for the kit, so it's taking me longer than it normally would because of the fact that the entire process is being documented and turned into instructions.

Mine is getting closer to getting back in my garage and then that’ll be one of my first projects, so you’ve got some time to complete the cheat sheet.

Once I get the fitting from Blaine that should be all I need to get back to installing it. I am not doing any more big rock trails until I get it taken care of. It’s unbearable without it.

I had to ask Blaine why I had a small amount of movement at the V-Bar. Pay attention if you need to place a slight bend in the bracket as to push or pull and then re-install on the same side you took them off. I have some pics on what NOT to do if needed.:cautious:

I have found a ladder and string/cord has been a great way to hang/paint things. For my fenders, I hung them from some "I" bolts in the roof.

Have you considered a body-color powder coat? Raptor liner is tintable but doing that yourself, the tinting, likely won't come out right. The finish on the raptor liner though is amazing if you bedline.

My problem with this is that I only want to powder coat a portion of the fender body color, and that is the panel with the vent. The rest of it I want to be black. I’m not sure it’s possible to powder coat two colors.
