Pinion Removal

Preface- I recently rebuilt and re-geared my Dana 30 (open diff) so all the gears, bearings, cups and seals are new. I'm now installing a front locker and 30 spline axle shafts which means I need to ensure the gear set up is correct (back lash and contact pattern). I'm re-using the 4:88 gears and pinion because they are only a few months old.

I need to know if I should replace the bearing and cup on the "yoke" side of the pinion shaft if for some reason I have to change the pinion depth. I remember that bearing has a slight interference fit and is pushed onto the pinion shaft when you torque the yoke nut down, but I'm just not sure if it's re-usable. I've probably put 500 miles on it so its pretty new. I do have a new yoke nut and crush sleeve coming in for the install.

You shouldn't have to mess with the pinion depth at all when changing carriers if you are reusing the existing gear set. Assuming they were already set up properly of course. Just replace the carrier and adjust backlash

Thanks for the reply. I did the set up myself but it was my first one. The markings looked good to me, but honestly looking back at the pics they might be a bit shallow or I could just be overthinking this. I'll swap out the carrier and ring gear and re-apply the marking grease to see if its the same. Thanks again.

X2 you only need to check and maybe adjust the backlash. Nothing else is needed.
